The list is located here.
Now I’m not a huge video gamer, but one thing phased out with today’s modern HD home video game systems are arcades. This list brought me back to the days of yesteryear where bugging your parents for 2 bucks to go play at the arcade was just a pain in the ass.
I like this list, but here are some of my favs.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…FOUR PLAYERS! Explosions! Interacting with the scene. Talking! How bad ass was that game?
- WWF Superstars – You couldn’t stop the Ultimate Warrior! What the hell is going on in that picture? Seriously.
- Golden Axe – The Dwarf could seriously eff those bad guys up.
- NBA JAM – The game altered sports video gaming. Why? Because they used real names and real liknesses. The game even came with Mike Iuzzolino. THE Mike Iuzzolino.
- The Simpsons – I have one speck of nerdiness about me. I know everything about the Simpsons. Sure it was a cheap ripoff of the Ninja Turtles game, but it has THE SIMPSONS! Naturally, this game is on my list.
- Frogger – jump. jump. splat. Sounds like Friday night at the CHX residence.
What am I missing?

i hated that getup button. it was as if it was laughing in your face when you would still get pinned. sparty(Quote)
agreed. And you would hit it SO freaking hard anyway. GatorTrey(Quote)
Boom! Shaka-laka!! HawkEye19(Quote)
arcade: nba jam rocks.
the famicom for me was pretty much double dribble jpmanahan(Quote)
daytona 500
mortal kombat (fatality!)
that tabletop football game that pretty much had a bowling ball for a track ball and only Xs and Os for graphics sae(Quote)
Loved Frogger.
Dig Dug and Qbert were good too. The Dairy Queen across the street from where I grew up had video games in it ‘back in the day’. Jen(Quote)
How was T2 not on that list? HawkEye19(Quote)
Dig Dug! sparty(Quote)
Mine? Never played it. GatorTrey(Quote)

played galaxian to death in the pizza place in my home town sae(Quote)
Aladdin’s Castle – Charleston, SC here GatorTrey(Quote)
I think you should have included Paper Boy and Rootbeer Tapper. knightro(Quote)
Circus Pizza and Aladdin’s Castle in the Maplewood Mall for me. Nothing like game tokens for A’s on your report card. HawkEye19(Quote)
Can’t forget Spy Hunter and Asteroids
And just because I’m the old guy here I have to throw in Pong…the first video game I ever played. Played it in the clubhouse at the golf course. knightro(Quote)
didn’t have much for arcades in my hometown so my brother and i used to love riding up to green bay with my grandparents. they’d give us each $5, while my grandma dragged my poor grandpa around the mall. one mall had an Aladdin’s Castle and I think the other’s was called Gold Mine sae(Quote)
Wow, I forgot about Golden Axe. That was an underrated game. john(Quote)
I used to destroy Galaga at the local pizza joint. It actually makes me sad that I can download it on an emulator on my cell phone…
And Motorbike on the old NES system where you could design your own track? Seriously pro. Big D(Quote)
if we are going to start talking NES…Blades of Steel. sparty(Quote)
always thought it was funny if you downloaded the atari 2600 emulator you could put EVERY game for it on a single floppy disk
and i have a single disk for the PS2 that has 28 genesis games on it sae(Quote)
Anyone ever play that hologram arcade game with real people on it? GatorTrey(Quote)
Sweet, I can get Golden Axe for the Virtual Console. HawkEye19(Quote)
Big D, you talking about ExciteBike?
Mega Man was the shit on NES. cbh49er(Quote)
Blades of Steel was awesome! other NES sports games we wore out were pro wrestling, double dribble, rbi baseball, bases loaded. and tecmo bowl and tecmo super bowl of course sae(Quote)
i played a virtual reality game in Toronto once. that messed with my mind, man. sparty(Quote)
pro wrestling was bad ass. they never made a good WWF game for NES, but the NWA game was really good. sparty(Quote)
I always hated when I was playing The Simpsons or TMNT with a friend and some random person just put in a quarter and started playing with us without asking. john(Quote)
where you got to choose your moves? GatorTrey(Quote)

Knightro knows who I would be in this game. WOOOOOOOOO! sparty(Quote)
now you know where he got his name from. sparty(Quote)
HAH! GatorTrey(Quote)
You all are spoiled. When I was a kid, I had to play that electronic football game where the field buzzed and the players all just spun around in circles and the hockey game with the guys on long rods that slid up and down the “ice” and just rotated. knightro(Quote)
I have actually witnessed the legend of NBA Jam being haunted. I feel lucky to be in this group because unless there is an original edition NBA Jam arcade game near you, or you experienced the very rare event in the past, you are out of luck to join this group. guyinthecorner(Quote)
sparty – I’m guessing you wanted to be Animal. HawkEye19(Quote)
knightro- i had those too. i also remember the old hand held football. http://www.bigredtoybox.com/articles/football.jpg sparty(Quote)
@sparty – could you get the Nature Boy to flop in that game? knightro(Quote)
I still have that handheld Mattel football game! Original from around 1974 or so knightro(Quote)
knightro-I was always a fan of him being thrown over the top turn buckle and then walking along the outside of the ropes. sparty(Quote)
Flair and Piper were easily my favorite characters in sports entertainment…biggest personalities of their time knightro(Quote)
nobody was ever better on the mic than Piper. sparty(Quote)
“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum.”
movie? sae(Quote)
His fight in “They Live” was epic. Not a lot of people realize the black guy he fought for like 6 minutes in that movie was Cameron Diaz’s dad in “There’s Something About Mary” knightro(Quote)
@sae – They Live knightro(Quote)
Rock, better actor, better on the mic too. cbh49er(Quote)
no, Rock needed catchphrases. Piper could say something different everytime. sparty(Quote)
Fair point.
Jake the Snake was a beast on the mic. cbh49er(Quote)
The Black Scorpion GatorTrey(Quote)
Did Piper really come up with the line?
“When they think they have the answers, I change the questions”
I always liked that line. cbh49er(Quote)
Bonesaw sae(Quote)
i will always remember the build up to Piper vs Bret Hart. Piper schooled him on the mic. sparty(Quote)
to this day i cannot figure out the Hulk Hogan phenomenon. He couldn’t talk, he couldn;t wrestle, and fans loved him. sparty(Quote)
Bret was never really a good promo guy.
This was by far his best.

Macho Man was the shit. sparty(Quote)
I’d buy a best of Macho Man DVD in a heartbeat. cbh49er(Quote)
and Bobby “the Brain” Heenan was the best manager/announcer ever.
Brain: “Do you know what Koko B. Ware’s mom’s name is?”
Gorilla: “What?”
Brain: “Tupper” sparty(Quote)
