NBA Studs and Duds 11/18

By guyinthecorner

sad-logoLast night was an interesting one in the NBA. Ten players qualified for Stud in the eight games that were played. You think that’s a lot? Well, try this on for size (who says that anymore?)… zero players qualified for Dud. Not only that, but really only a few guy came close. Because there were eight games we will follow the formula… [when g=games, d=day, and s=sentences]  if g(d) ≥7, then s(g) = 1.

Stud of the Day LeBron James led the Cavs past his friend Steph Curry’s Warriors even though James was seen giving Curry advice after the game. The Thunder moved to a winning record on the season as Stud Durnatula bested D-Wade. The Pacers beat the Nets as both centers were Studs against each other (NTTAWWT). The Hornets bested the Clips as Stud David West led his CP3less team. The Suns beat the Rockets in a great game that marks the first time in 15 years that a team has scored 100+ points in each of their first 12 games (Suns are 10-2, last team was 1994 Jazz). The Nuggs dropped 130 on the Raptors as Melo and Nene both landed on the Stud list. The Bulls beat the Kings because the Kings are bad. And Kobe dropped a 40 on the Pistons despite his strained groin.

Lists and highlights are after the jump…

Studs

1. LeBron James – 11/19 FG, 8/10 FT, 5 REB, 12 AST, 2 BLK, 31 PTS
2. Kobe Bryant – 17/29 FG, 1/3 3PT, 5/5 FT, 5 REB (4 OFF), 5 AST, 3 STL, 40 PTS
3. Nene – 8/13 FG, 4/5 FT, 10 REB, 5 AST, 4 STL, 4 BLK, 20 PTS
4. Kevin Durant – 11/23 FG, 1/2 3PT, 9/9 FT, 9 REB, 5 AST, 32 PTS
5. Carmelo Anthony – 12/15 FG, 8/10 FT, 5 AST, 23 PTS
6. David West – 9/14 FG, 6/6 FT, 10 REB (6 OFF), 5 AST, 24 PTS
7. Carl Landry – 13/18 FG, 9 REB (6 OFF), 27 PTS
8. Roy Hibbert – 9/11 FG, 10 REB (5 OFF), 2 AST, 3 BLK, 19 PTS
9. Brooke Lopez – 10/27 FG, 16 REB (8 OFF), 3 AST, 5 BLK, 26 PTS
10. Will Bynum – 9/12 FG, 6/6 FT, 4 REB, 6 AST, 2 STL, 24 PTS

He is known for having statistical formulas and might be Bill James or Joe Lunardi depending on who you ask. Is this an excuse to not write much when the league has a busy day?  (Quote)

sparty: check out that suffocating defense that NBA players play.

The NBA doesn’t want you to be excited about stifling defense, they want you to be excited about someone making it rain. Then it is worth the price of a ticket.

The NBA…it’s the bees knees!  (Quote)

see, i can take individual sentences and take them completely out of context too.  (Quote)

  • guyinthecorner says:

You didn’t take it out of context. You were just wrong. Suffocating D by the Pistons will both hold Kobe to 40 and be 10x better than any college team.  (Quote)

No one ever claimed college players are better. The college game is simply more entertaining.  (Quote)

Sparty was alluding to my comment where I pointed out when he said college guys know how to play defense that NBA players not playing defense is a myth and the players are way better on defense in the NBA.  (Quote)

Maybe when they give a shit, but how often does that happen?  (Quote)

when did i say NBA players didn’t play defense?  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

you are missed my entire point. i never said the kids execute as well as nba players do. but that doesn’t mean the nba game is more entertaining or enjoyable to watch. hell, i enjoy watching two perennial high school teams in basketball and football more than college and the pros.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

and i use perennial, because that word is always used with high school programs.  (Quote)

You know who plays good defense?

    JJ Redick.  (Quote)

yeah, he sucked at defense in college too.

    /defense rests.  (Quote)

    JJ Redick is scrappy.  (Quote)
