Happy Hour – Thanksgiving

Submitted by CBH49er on November 19, 2009 – 7:20 pm15 Comments

HotGirls1_normalSparty was kind off enough to give me Thanksgiving off . This will allow me to  stuff my face with turkey, and be sad that my Grandad still doesn’t have NFL Network, meaning I will miss the only good Thanksgiving game.

Thanksgiving is a tremendous holiday. My tradition is to travel to Pinehurst, North Carolina where my Grandad lives, and stay there for a few days. Pinehurst was home to the US Open twice in recent years. I am not a golfer and have never played the course, only putted. One day maybe I will play but what I always make a point to do is take out my Grandad’s golf cart with my cousins. We usually drive around the neighborhood and course and generally just make idiots of ourselves. The best was last year when we drove to one of the clubhouses and one of the old fogeys told me no sweat pants allowed. We weren’t even staying! Rich, old white people are fun to mess with.

Another family tradition is our family soccer game. We have had to change the teams because of dominance of one side over the other. Unfortunately, I have been on the losing side for most of the years, but always hope for something different each year.

What family traditions do you have? Happy early Thanksgiving!

NFL

Miami Dolphins (4-5) at Carolina Panthers (4-5), 8:20 PM ET, NFL Network, loser may be out of the playoff race, while the winner keeps hope alive.

College Football

Colorado (3-7, 2-4) at #12 Oklahoma State (8-2, 5-1), 7:30 PM ET, ESPN

College Basketball – Top 25

Central Arkansas (1-1) at #1 Kansas (2-0), 8:00 PM ET

#4 North Carolina (3-0) vs. #15 Ohio State (2-0), 9:00 PM ET, ESPN2. Tough early season game for the Heels.

Sam Houston State (2-0) at #5 Kentucky (2-0), 7:00 PM ET. Kentucky equals frauds.

#24 Syracuse (2-0) at #12 California (2-0), 7:00 PM ET, ESPN2. Whatever happened to that douche Eric Devendorf? Bad decision to come out early but I guess he didn’t have any more Syracuse women to smack around.

Utah Valley (1-1) at #18 Minnesota (2-0), 8:00 PM ET

NBA

Phoenix Suns (10-2) at New Orleans Hornets (4-8), 8:00 PM ET, TNT

Utah Jazz (5-6) at San Antonio Spurs (4-5), 8:30 PM ET. Its early but the Spurs are looking like the fluke frauds I thought they were.

Chicago Bulls (6-4)at Los Angeles Lakers (8-3), 10:30 PM ET, TNT

NHL

Toronto Maple Leafs (3-11-5, 11 pts) at Carolina Hurricanes (3-12-5, 11 pts), 7:00 PM ET, TSN

Boston Bruins (8-8-4, 20 pts) at Atlanta Thrashers (10-6-1, 21 pts), 7:00 PM ET

Pittsburgh Penguins (14-7, 28 pts) at Ottawa Senators (9-6-3, 21 pts), 7:30 PM ET

Phoenix Bankrupts (12-9, 24 pts) at St. Louis Blues (6-8-4, 16 pts), 8:00 PM ET

New Jersey Devils (14-5, 28 pts) at Nashville Predators (10-8-1, 21 pts), 8:00 PM ET

Columbus Blue Jackets (11-6-2, 24 pts) at Dallas North Stars (9-5-6, 24 pts), 8:30 PM ET

Chicago Blackhawks (12-5-2, 26 pts) at Calgary Flames (12-5-2, 26 pts), 9:30 PM ET

Tampa Bay Lightning (8-4-6, 22 pts) at Anaheim Ducks (6-10-3, 15 pts), 10:00 PM ET

Sarge Gonchar returns from his broken wrist today for the Pens along with Stanley Cup game 7 hero Max Talbot. But they also lose Mark Eaton who marks the 6th and final opening day defenseman to miss time

    /corrected for my story

This is the second Turkey Day that I will not be going to NC with my fam since we moved my Grandma up here about a year and a half ago. My bros, spousal unit and cousins have been complaining for the past week that our parents sold the house and we are not getting together in Whispering Pines for Thanksgiving. The family that bought the house better have some good times like we did. If those walls could speak….

cabbage – thanks for visiting our little corner of the internet! and, personally, I prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas…less stress and expectations with more relaxation and just enjoying the company of family for Thanksgiving.
