Hall of Famer or Not?

Submitted by sparty on September 15, 2009 – 9:30 am82 Comments

pro football hall of fameI have been in the NFL for 12 years. I am a 5-time pro bowler and a 3-time First Team All-Pro. I have played my entire career for the same team. I have recorded 24 sacks and 37 INTs. I am among 4 players in history that have record at least 20 sacks and 30 INTs. I am actually the all-time leader among DBs in sacks. I have 12 TDs in my long career, 4 of them on fumble recoveries, 1 on a punt return. I have forced a total of 11 fumbles overall, to go along with my 904 tackles. Since it seems very important to those who vote – I am also a member of Super Bowl winning team.

Am I a Hall of Famer?

Who am I? (take your guesses)

Considering how screwed up the NFL HOF selection committee is, how can you really so if Barber’s in or not. Michael Irvin is in, and Cris Carter is still sitting and waiting. Randall McDaniel, the best lineman of the 90s, was kept waiting for three years. There’s no rhyme of reason for it.

NOT a hall of famer. on raw data alone, deserving? absolutely. but when you figure the defense he was on and the pass rushes he perennially had, and the fact that he was the definition of a system player in a system that has about as much value for CB’s as i do for michigan fans…

    not even close.

the OL impacts a game eleventy trillion times more than any WR in history, even rice and moss, do. this is not even arguable. without blockers, nothing works no matter how great the skill guys are.

look at the teams of the decades…steelers in the 70’s…best OL of their decade littered with hall of famers. 49ers…great OL that changed the way teams scheme blocking assingments. cowboys of the 90’s…best OL of all time.

is this a coincidence? NO. all those skill guy HoF’ers would be nothing wtihout the bigguns.

jay schroeder, don’t forget that gem. rypien had one good season. one!

i guess you think swan and stalworth don’t belong in the hall. oh, they made spectactular catches in the super bowl, that’s all that counts. guess it is time to put in mark ingram and david tyree.

sparty…there’s no way you can convince me that art monk deserves to be in the hall of fame. no way at all, period. he was an excellent player, but that’s where it ends. he did nothing to revolutionize his position, nothing outrageous that none of his other peers could do…he just…was.

and that’s not worthy of a gold jacket, i’m sorry. in your defense though, i advocate the smallest hall of fame possible. it makes me sick to my stomach that guys like jim kelly, troy aikman and emmitt smith are in there. it’s just retarded.

hardly. swann doesn’t belong because his career numbers are pathetic. stallworth i have no problem with, but bradshaw i do.

the hall of fame is a total package…great production over a career AND memorable moments. there are some exceptions, but monk doesn’t fit that criteria.

spencer- now you nailed it. the pro football hof is watered down. that is why i cannot understand monk not being in. i love harry carson, but he doesn’t belong in either. especially if Carl Banks is not.

for the most part, but getting worse, baseball has done a very good job.

ha. go look at the list of guys in the hof for football. it’s pathetic when compared to baseball. i really wished you used jim rice as your example.

if it said “was suspended for drugs”, you’d be on the right track.
