The Morning After: August 26, 2009

By GatorTrey

tmalogoUnfortunately for MLB, this is the time of year where it just starts getting really good, and no one will notice outside of a select few markets. It’s been official for a few years now, baseball just doesn’t have the hype to carry through the opening of the NFL and College Football season.

My theory, not as many people like baseball as much as they say they do. Just look at the numbers…ballparks get filled every night…but On TV? Crap…it’s called the “something to do” factor. Baseball has held on for so long because people feel a sentiment with it…and because it’s all anyone has during the summer. The most shocking stat to me was the 2008 World Series pulling similar numbers to the 2009 NBA Finals…and the World Series featured 2 of the Top 12 markets in the country. That’s not good if your the Bud-man…

Just one more stat on that…We throw up a baseball article on here…20-25 comments. Football…50 easily. I’d say most our commenters are based in the northeast…where baseball thrives the most.

So while searching for some baseball news to give ya…I found slim pick’ns. Billy Wagner IS a Red Sock. And in case you weren’t around yesterday…Johan shut down for the season. I gotta ask…if the Mets were in it, would they hold off on surgery until they were outta it?

Did you know? More Americans get their television sports news from…You don’t say!

Speaking of which, ESPN implemented a stringent Twitter ban about a month ago after a couple of their personalities took it upon themselves to get in arguments on their service. Personally, I love the idea of opening up their personalities beyond the airwaves. Despite this new ironclad policy, it hasn’t really stopped.

Wus…So Zeke commits FIU to the Coaches v. Cancer Classic…They schedule his first game against the defending champ…Zeke pulls out. Shocked? (Note: SN is saying that FIU will play in the tournament if they get to play Ohio State as they originally believed they would.)

BRETT FAVRE! This just in…some of the players on the Vikings want Tavaris Jackson to start over Favre. The source is Profootballtalk, not ESPN, so it might be legit.

We unveil our AFC North Preview today.  Is it more accurate than CBH Sports’?

Welcome home! Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy found himself back behind bars after failing to show for work. “He was supposed to be at work and he was somewhere else.” In my line of work…it doesn’t shock me. (As my esteemed colleague Mr. Mizerle06 would say) Butt-secks joke!

Federer and Safina are your #1 seeds for the US Open.

Not a good day for the Miami Hurricanes. Their top two backup quarterbacks have decided to look elsewhere to play. If you’re counting at home that’s number three total in 2009. Funny…because three is the number of years the Randy Shannon tenure will last…Still. Doesn’t beat the 2006 season when they had to list a punter on the receiver depth chart. 7-6 Here we come!

It looks like KFC has really found a way to outdo themselves. With Americans crying about the rising healthcare costs, the Colonel would sure br proud of this bad boy. Odds on something thinking this is Atkins friendly? 100%
