The Morning After: July 15, 2009

tmalogoUnless you were Miz and/or away from a TV, sports fans were most certainly tuning into the All-Star festivities at some point last night. It had everything you’d want an All Star Game to have.
Plenty of McCarver.
Chris Rose on the field.
Bad camera work.

I’ll quit bitching, I usually enjoy Fox’s coverage of MLB, but it seemed off last night. Maybe it was because every player just took their chance with the first pitch and it kinda killed the flow that baseball productions usually need…That game was shorter than the freaking Home Run Derby! And I liked it! Anyone else agree?

I gotta say, the new Busch Stadium might be my new favorite ballpark in baseball. Just watching it the last two days or so made me really appreciate not only the view it offers, but also the setup of the park. Very underrated.

After all the talk about how well the Commander-in-Chief would toss the ball, President Obama had a pretty solid pitch. Shame the people at home missed it thanks to an awesome avant garde view Fox worked in…He followed the pitch with a little booth time with Buck and McCarver, as Awful Annoucing wrote…he was pretty sure it was gonna go better than the Artie Langeinterview…I disagree. I did findit humorous that Buck wanted him to stick around, almost begging to try and get another 1/2 inning without having to make conversation with McCarver. Understood.

Sources at the WWL are saying the Phillies have signed Pedro Martinez…After saying no to a couple teams because they wanted to put him in the pen it looks like Pedro MAY have a place in the Phillies rotation, so long as he doesn’t blow and/or Roy Halladay hasn’t shown up.

Interesting blog  from the guys at MLJ that officially ruled out the Red Sox as potential World Series Champions. I like anything that gets those fans fired up, it’s better than fucking with Nole fans at times.

This is why you are the Kansas City Chiefs and not the New England Patriots…Matt Cassel received an extension yesterday…for about $10 Million a year and $24 Million guarenteed. I’m not saying Cassel didn’t show he could play last year, but worth this franchise altering type of money? Still, doesn’t beat Stafford’s mega-that’s-why-you’re-Detroit deal.

A WNBA arrest?! Looks like Diana Taurasi had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17 on July 2nd, which in Arizona is known as an EXTREME DUI. I just like that name…If only she was in Gainesville.

Former Celtic GREAT Antoine Walker decided to write some checks in Vegas in exchange for chips at a few casinos. Problem #1: The checks were bad. Problem #2: They were for $1 Million Dollars. Problem #3: He now owes $822,500. FUCK! That’s gonna hurt.

LANE KIFFIN NEWS!!! Lanny boy had this to say a week and a half ago after being asked about why he hadn’t apologized to college football great Steve Spurrier.

“I’m still waiting for Coach Spurrier’s apology for calling me out on the first day I was there, saying I didn’t take my test,” … “I haven’t gotten that yet, either”

This is the worst day in sports…Thankfully Miz is stuck with TMA tomorrow.

i think he would be the last pitcher they would use. they have a lot of unused arms. (beckett, bailey, verlander)

Wake should have pitched before Buehrle, Jackson and King Felix.

That was Beckett. Wake wanted to pitch, but Maddon’s excuse, was that he was keeping him for extra innings.

Mauer has caught RA Dickey before.

Felger is supposedly going to do the afternoon show. I’m going to start praying now that this new station works out.

BBC’s screwing us, AGAIN? I’m not happy with that.

Brings the question: What about the Ryder Cup next year? Will that be in HD?
