Rip for Boozer Talks Ongoing

Submitted by sparty on July 6, 2009 – 1:28 pm16 Comments

rip-hamiltonThe Detroit Pistons may not be done revamping their roster this summer.  They are apparently in discussions with the Utah Jazz for PF Carlos Boozer.  The primary player that the Pistons are dangling for Boozer is SG Rip Hamilton.

This move makes all the sense in the world for the Pistons. They just signed  Ben Gordon to a huge deal, and we already know that Hamilton cannot coexist with another high scoring guard on the roster.  The Pistons have zero size up front, with the lone exception being the acquisition of  Charlie Villanueva.  He is not known as a primarily post player, so the Pistons have to to find someone to fill that void.  This deal would be hard for Piston fans to accept, as many of them are still very fond of Hamilton, and this would leave only Tayshaun from the 2004 Championship team.  Boozer could be treated a one year trial for the Pistons.  By trading Rip, this would leave plenty of cap space for next year.  It would also allow them to re-sign Boozer next year if they want.

Would this benefit the Utah? Well, it would allow them to give more money Millsap, who they would really like to lockdown for the longterm.  They do not want to lose the restricted agent to another this year, and then Boozer next year as well.  Hamilton would also become an excellent running mate with Deron Williams in the backcourt.
