InternJP stops by to give you a quick look at the players that are FA’s as of 12:01am this morning.
With the Salary Cap going down to presumably around $58.7 million next season, there will be fiscal madness in our midst. Some managed to free up cap space while others need to reduce payroll to stay under the luxury tax level. It is important to know that even if all eyes are on next year’s class. This year will be an interesting one by itself.

So who is the best among the crop?

The All-Restricted FA team:

G: Raymond Felton (Charlotte), Jarrett Jack (Indiana), Ramon Sessions (Milwaukee), Nate Robinson (New York), Juan Carlos Navarro (Memphis via Spain)

F: Marvin Williams (Atlanta), Jamario Moon (Miami), Paul Millsap (Utah), Josh Childress (Atlanta via Greece), Glen Davis (Boston), Hakim Warrick (Memphis), Linas Kleiza (Denver)

C: David Lee (New York), Marcin Gortat (Orlando), Leon Powe (Boston)

The All-Unrestricted FA Team:

East

G: Mike Bibby (Atlanta), Ben Gordon (Chicago), Allen Iverson (Detroit), Andre Miller (Philadelphia), Marquis Daniels (Indiana), Anthony Parker (Toronto), Wally Szczerbiak (Cleveland)

F: Charlie Villanueva (Milwaukee), Hedo Turkoglu (Orlando), Shaun Marion (Toronto), Antonio McDyess (Detroit), Joe Smith (Cleveland)

C: Zaza Pachulia (Atlanta), Rasheed Wallace (Detroit), Anderson Varejao (Cleveland),

West

G: Jason Kidd (Dallas), Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers), Von Wafer (Houston) Anthony Carter (Denver) Michael Finley (San Antonio)

F: Ron Artest (Houston), Trevor Ariza (LA Lakers), Lamar Odom (LA Lakers), Grant Hill (Phoenix), Matt Barnes (Phoenix), Drew Gooden (San Antonio), Brandon Bass (Dallas)

C: Chris Andersen (Denver)

Take note that GITC’s Juan Dixon did not make the final cut in creating the All-FA team.

The C’s almost signed him last year. Someone (probably Denver) will overpay him.

If he gets no look in teh US there are plenty of Euro teams taht would overpay for teh guy to play for them.

I would absolutely love to see Iverson go unsigned until just before the season starts, then take a veteran minimum contract with some shitty team like Minnesota just to be able to play.

Kobe and Michael Finley aren’t free agents. They took their options.

    Leon Powe is restricted.

Juan Carlos Navarro is not coming back to America unless there is some crazy offer from a good team. Barcelona is set to pay him about $15.5 million after taxes and his house and car over the next four years.

If we are digging down to Wally, we could mention 10 other guys.

As I was saying to Sparty earlier, if you’re a free agent, don’t expect to get the money teams have this year.

    a) they’re holding out for next summer
    b) and most important, a team isn’t overpaying to get a TAD bit better in this economy. Thats why the real contenders (SA, LA, DEN BOS, CLE, and ORL) are going to spend spend spend while the others take it easy.

That’s exactly what I think will happen.

Iverson is still pretty good. The Pistons misused him (see: coach, fired). He could be really useful for a few contenders. He’s going to the Bobcats though.

I thought I read Larry Brown saying the Bobcats wouldn’t be a fit for Iverson.

It was written before they decided not to.

Leon Powe is unrestricted. The Celtics made no qualifying offer, thus opening that up.

As what a distraction? The guy plays balls out, but for whatever reason his teammates have never like, nor got a long with the guy. When he’s on the court his teammates play so tight it’s just tough.

Wow. I just saw that thing about Powe. A little weird for the Celts. Because of the knee injury, I would assume that nobody would try to match so I figured they’d extend it.

The problem with Iverson is that you have to let him run the show. He holds the ball most of the time. He’s an underrated passer, but he has to have the ball in his hands. The Pistons took the ball out of his hands. Bad call.

Why is that weird for the Celts? Odds are he misses most, if not all of next season with the knee injury.

I was pretty disappointed when the C’s didn’t make the qualifying offer, but I doubt Powe will get too many offers – he might decide to rehab and then come back when he’s healthy, maybe a late season acquisition for a team. Hopefully, it’s Boston

At his age, not too many are going to allow that. The guy was a walking turnover last year. That’s why he didn’t get the ball.
