Mack Brown is a Crazy Old Man
Texas Longhorns head coach has started campaigning that the Big 12 is stronger than the SEC. That silly Mack. No bother using objective facts to support his claim.
I will agree that it is the 2nd best conference right now, but still not close enough to be making claims that it is anywhere near as good as the SEC.
Of course, Chuck Carlton from Dallas Morning News does his best to argue Mack’s case, even though Mack wasn’t able to use any evidence to prove it himself.
Three teams – Oklahoma, Texas and Oklahoma State – will probably open next season in the top 10. And excellence hasn’t been limited to a few. Since the conference’s formation, eight of the 12 teams have been ranked in the Associated Press poll’s top five during November.
Well, we just covered that preseason polling is absolute dogcrap. So using a subjective measure of idiocy isn’t a good argument. They even throw off the polling for later in the year, so we got that covered now.
The conference featured four of the five vote-getters for the 2008 Heisman Trophy, including winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma and runner-up Colt McCoy. Both return this season.
Seriously, the Heisman is your argument? Everyone knows that Tim Tebow was the catalyst and best player in college football last year. He won games himself against teams that actually played defense. The only one worth arguing may be Colt McCoy, but quite honestly this is just another subjective topic to use in an argument. Plus, voters have a hard-on for gaudy offensive statistics. Andre Ware anyone?
Seven Big 12 players were selected in the first round of this year’s NFL draft, a high-water mark. That total might just be the beginning.
Another piss poor reason, why don’t we wait to see how that talent turns out before we award that number viable. We can already look at a draft from a few years ago and see that Jay Cutler (Vandy) > Vince Young.
Todd McShay’s 2010 mock draft for ESPN, released in late April, suggested the waiting area in New York could resemble a Big 12 media day. His projection: a jaw-dropping nine of the first 10 picks coming from the conference.
Really? Todd McShay?
And with that as his final bullet point, I leave it to you.

Seriously though, the Big 12 will probably have a team in the National Championship. And that team will probably lose.

Why are fans of mid-majors talking about big-time college football?
Florida was lucky they played the 2nd best team in the conference in the BCS title game.
