Orioles 4 Blue Jays 1 – The Jays are even struggling with the bottom of the AL BEast. Jeremy Guthrie went 7 strong for the O’s, as the Blue Jays dropped their 7th in a row overall. Ah, the beginning of May was such a good time for them.
Tigers 13 Royals 1 - Maybe Dave Domrbrowski isn’t as overrated as we think. Detroit seems to have all the right pieces in place right now, and is starting to take control of the AL Central. They increased their division lead to 4 games over KC while pounding them for 13 runs on 19 hits. Justin Verlander continues to vault himself towards towards the top of the AL in pitching, with another dominating performance.
Yankees 11 Rangers 1 - Two awesome performances in this game. First, Alex Rodriguez proved to everyone that he could produce base-hits and doubles and not just homeruns. A-Rod was 5-5 on the day w/o a homer. Phil Hughes was the other story, as he didn’t allow a run over 8 innings and fanned 6, while allowing just 3 hits.
Indians 11 Rays 10 - Maybe Troy Percival was still a good closer. The Rays bullpen was handed a 6 run lead in the bottom of the ninth, and proceeded to allow 7 runs to the lowly Indians. Grant Balfour and Jason Isringhausen were torched big time, as they were only able to record 1 out in the entire inning. The Indians won on a 2 run single by Victor Martinez.
Pirates 10 Cubs 8 – Mark down Memorial Day as the death of the 2009 Chicago Cubs. 102 Year Itch indeed.
Brewers 1 Cardinals 0 – When does pitching 8 scoreless innings mean nothing? When your team cannot score a run for you. Chris Carpenter was lights out, but the Cards couldn’t back him up. The Brewers would grab the win in the 10th off of Bill Hall’s walkoff hit.

AAA Stud: Clay Buchholz had a perfect game into the 9th inning yesterday and finished with a 1 hitter.

2005 489AB, 9HR
2006 521AB, 13HR
2007 406AB, 7HR
2008 536AB, 9HR
2009 81AB, 11HR
I’m guessing he’ll cool off, if not there’s nothing fishy about coming off an injury and putting up a ridiculous HR total. sae(Quote)

sae- he has always been a good hitter. a lot of people have projected him to hit the ball with more power. a comparison was made to how Mattingly hit the ball in the mid-80s. sparty(Quote)
AAA huh? sparty(Quote)

mauer’s an awesome hitter, i still love that they drafted him #1 instead of prior because they believed they couldn’t afford prior sae(Quote)

The Indians scored 6 of their 7 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth. Not sure if a different pitcher got that first out though?
I screamed “HOLY CRAP!” and the spousal unit came running…he thought I saw a huge bug or something, but Victor Martinez had hit they winning single. Jen(Quote)
