The Morning After: May 18, 2009

By mikeychx

The Morning AfterIt makes me sad sometimes that we aren’t here too much on the weekends. This is only because there are so many games going on and so much to talk about. Granted, we are a work diversion for you guys…which beats actually working – so we do have that going for us.

Seriously though, I wished more than once that a bunch of you guys were here on Sunday at least. So many things to talk about. Saturday was okay….Tony Stewart got back in the winners circle while making a million and A-Rod hit a walk off which is nice…but it didn’t compare to Sunday.

Sunday saw the Lakers blow out the Rockets to advance to play the Nuggets (and it wasn’t even close), while the Red Wings took down Blackhawks rather easily…and then we got to take a break to recover before the second game started…

During that break we watched Zach Johnson win the Valero Texas Open though….winning the tourney for the second year in a row after watching Paul Goydos choke with bogeys on 17 and 18….

Anyways after the break we saw the Magic dispose of the doucheless Kevin Garnett-less Celtics to advance to the East Finals (and it wasn’t even close – part 2)…let’s be honest – the Lakers …expected. The Magic…not so much…Another Yankee walk off….three straight! We all get to relive it…woulda been funner to talk about as it happened.

I’m looking forward to some good sports posts again from our authoring crew here…hopefully I got one for you coming up at 11. (/tease’d). The reason I bring this up is that everytime I get on the web to find some tasty links, I keep seeing weak crap with no controversy like we have during college football and the NFL season. it makes it tough to entertain you guys on Mondays. I mean – Unless you want me to talk about Fav-Ruh…which I refuse to do that is.

Where does that leave me? Horse racing….meh. I know Sparty wants me to tell you the Yanks are heating up. The Rays…yeah they are stinking right now because of ther management maybe? Have we ever talked about tennis here?

Anyways, David Wells is always good for a bunch of shit talking. But, do you really do this to the team that made you famous? A Rod is really a sticking point for most people…and Wells does have rings so….

I found this exchange on a CavalierBlog:

Optimist,

Are you from the future? You seem to correctly predict every single playoff game the Cavs play. I can’t wrap my head around it.

What is the future like?

Tim
Cincinnati, OH

Yes, Tim. I am from the future – the far off world of 2009. And it’s a magical time that we live in. We have phones that fit in the palm of your hand, an American Hair Club for Men, and a president whose middle name is “Hussein.” We have iPods and Octomoms. No hover-cars, but it’s still pretty sweet here in the future.

But easily the best thing about this Utopian age, Tim from Cincinnati, is that we have a basketball team from Cleveland – (Cleveland!) – that’s about to break the 44-year Championship drought. And the path to the Promised Land will be led by a local kid.

His name is TheBron and he’s way better at basketball than George Mikan or Dolph Schayes – or whoever the greatest player is from the year you’re writing in from.

Anyone here think the Cavs aren’t going to The Finals? Me either….but I dont have them winning though. The Lakers are way too deep and the Nuggets are way too tough…matchup wise – for anyone in the East. Please quote me on this and tell me why I am wrong.  I am almost ready to give rings to whoever comes out of the West *cough* LAKERS *cough*

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Wrapping it up without too much controversy…In fact controversy may be dissapating…..like I said…not too much to BS about. Stay tuned for some quality posts throoghout the day.

Because the Lakers were way too tough for anyone from the east in 2004.  (Quote)

MAGIC WIN!!! It was awesome to see them go on the road to take a game 7. It remains to be seen how much gas they have left in the tank to take on an extremely talented and rested Cavs team. I hope we can be competitive and make it a great series. Either way I consider the playoffs this year an important part of the growth and maturing of the young Magic players.  (Quote)

    There are game 7s…
And then there are game 7s in Boston…
    Unless we’re playing the Magic…
In that case it could be a tossup…
    But not really…

Sorry Cs fans, I’m not that type of fan. I’ll stop  (Quote)

way to put up a fight, C’s.  (Quote)

  • john says:

I’m not that dissapointed in last night. I’m thinking I’d rather have the season end last night in a respectable 7 game series, instead of the season ending next week after getting embarassed in 4 or 5 games by the Lebrons.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

forget that, trey. you let it out. John, just go away from the screen. with all that shit talking their fans did? Especially fans like Boston Nozzel always does? Let them have it. Enjoy it, Trey. It is boston, fuck’em!  (Quote)

  • GatorTrey says:

Seriously John? I’ve tried that excuse too. Red agrees  (Quote)

  • Geoff says:

Glad to see Boston lose. Eff ‘em. Though I feel the poor Magic are just going to get steamrolled. Wings win was nice. Tigers swept a weekend series and I got a bunch of laundry done yesterday. All in all a good weekend.  (Quote)

  • GatorTrey says:

Steamrolled? The Magic always play Cleveland tough. In fact we’ve won 8 of the last 10.

If I were a betting man, I’d take Cleveland, but don’t write off the Magic just yet.  (Quote)

  • john says:

Hopefully the Magic magnet and sign crew is on their way to Cleveland right now to wreak havoc everywhere, just like they did in Boston. I think that’s the only way the Magic win a game against the Lebrons.  (Quote)

  • knightwhosaysni says:

I will say Cleveland in 5. 3 home wins and split in Orlando. I like Denver over the Lakers in 6.  (Quote)

    Regular season is meaningless.  (Quote)

Trey-don’t put too much stock into what happened during the regular season.  (Quote)

Is that bitterness I hear John?  (Quote)

  • GatorTrey says:

They said the same thing before the Celtics series.

The Magic matchup well with Cleveland, still they have the best player on the planet. I’m just saying it won’t be a 4-5 game series like everyone seems to think  (Quote)

  • john says:

    Me bitter? Noooooo.

    /not bitter’d  (Quote)

You guys see Lebron’s newest trick shot from the hallway 15 feet behind the basket and off to the side? Ridiculous.  (Quote)

i wonder how often Jordan did shots like that. McDonalds commercial not withstanding.  (Quote)

  • GatorTrey says:

Larry Bird used to hit that shot all the time.  (Quote)

  • john says:

Lebron takes shots like that for fun, Jordan probably only took shots like that to take teammates money.  (Quote)

  • GatorTrey says:

    +1 John  (Quote)

  • BostonNozzel says:

Congrats to Trey and the other Magic fans. I have to admit, that was some pretty sick shooting in the 4th qrter…man  (Quote)

boston fans are just passionate, and defensive :)   (Quote)
