Is Michael Crabtree a diva? Mangini thinks so.
The biggest development over the weekend in NFL Draft was not that Michael Crabtree failed to be the first wide receiver taken. In fact, there were more than a handful of boards that had Jeremy Maclin rated ahead of him. However, it wasn’t Maclin that was plucked first, it was Darrius Heyward-Bey of Maryland. Many believed him to be a mid to late first round pick. Why wasn’t Crabtree selected ahead of him?
The Browns were seriously considering drafting the Texas Tech star wideout as a possible replacement for Braylon Edwards. Then they met with him. I has been reported that Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini found him to be a diva. Therefore they decided to go another way in the draft.
That was not the end of that.
Crabtree’s college coach, Mike Leach, ripped into Mangini for his comments:
“Michael Crabtree has been more successful as a receiver than that guy has a coach at this point,” Leach said. ” … Part of the reason is he’s (Crabtree) too shy to be like that.”
Said Leach: “My definition of a diva is someone who’s loud and self-absorbed. Michael Crabtree is the furthest thing from loud that I’ve seen.”
He would later say in the same interview:
“Let’s see how all those non-divas do up in Cleveland this year,” Leach said.
Eric Mangini, offending people at every single turn. I don’t if that is how one would describe Crabtree, but he is a wide receiver, and there are very few pass-catchers who are low-key when it comes to talking about themselves.
Doesn’t really matter who is catching the balls in Cleveland, since they still don’t have someone to throw the ball. Bringin Brett Ratliff in is rich, rich I tell ya!

Seriously, what the heck Oakland? It doesn’t matter how fast a guy is if he can’t run a route or catch a pass. Steve Largent is probably just about the slowest receiver of all time and he was fantastic.

While choosing Robiskie is laughable, no pick was worse than the Colts taking Curtis Painter. What does he bring to the Colts? If Manning gets hurt they’re screwed anyway and he isn’t retiring for another 8 years. Painter is a Purdon’t.

Was kind of busy this weekend so didn’t get to follow the draft but as a Jet fan, I am fairly pleased at this point. I don’t really know enough of the players to debate who had a good draft or not. I really like when they do an analysis 3 years later on who had a good draft and compare it to what the “experts” said. Turns out, the experts don’t really know either.
After being shut out of the draft last year, at least Syracuse had two players drafted this year. Lean times ahead still.
