Hit and Run – April 17, 2009

Submitted by sparty on April 17, 2009 – 9:30 am16 Comments

Marlins Athletics BaseballIndians 10 Yankees 2 – Now my pick to win the Central division decides to play their best game of the year. Makes me even more pissed that Patphish grabbed Grady Sizemore 1 pick ahead of me in the draft. I hate you.  Grady hit a Grand Slam, and Victor Martinez went deep too for Patphish the Indians.  Way to stink up Opening Day at the new stadium.

Red Sox still in last place. Going to the run with it for as long as possible.

Marlins 6 Braves 2- Yeah, so the Marlins won again, this time sweep the Braves in the process.  Anibel Sanchez grabbed his first win on the young season.   Cody Ross was 3-3 with 4 RBIs.

Astros 6 Pirates 3- Lance Berkman may be the most underrated player in the entire league.  He also plays for Patphish’s team and hit a HR.

Cardinals 7 Cubs 4- The wheels are falling off in Chicago!!!  The Cubs left 19 guys on base.  That sounds really bad, but they are pretty lucky themselves.  The Cards stranded 18 of their own.

White Sox 3 Rays 2- Look another one of Patphish’s guys hit a home run (Jermaine Dye).

What we missed.

Hard Hitters

1. Cody Ross, Marlins- 3-3, 1 HR, 1 Run, 4 RBIs
2. Chris Duncan, Cardinals- 3-4 1 Run, 3 RBIs
3. Victor Martinez, Indians- 3-6, 1 HR, 2 Runs, 1 RBI

Hard Throwers

1. Roy Halladay, Blue Jays- 7IP, 8 Hits, 0 BB, 1 Runs 8 Ks
2. John Danks, White Sox- 6IP, 2Hits, 2 BBs 1 Run, 8Ks
3. Joe Saunders, Angels- 7IP, 3 Hits, 1 BB, 3 Ks

my staff kind of sucks this week, but i had a few guys go 2 starts last week so they’re finally getting around to pitching again this week and joba seems to pitch every 7th day or so. relievers aren’t seeing a lot of action this week either

I’ve got a pretty decent pitching staff…Lester is stinking it up right now though…I’m carrying 7 starters right now but I’m waiting to see who I’ll eventually drop.

No love for the Nationals first win?

In the nationals preview article, I wanted Nick Johnson to hit 2nd — which he did last night and had 3 hits. I wanted Dukes to hit 5th – which he did last night and had 2 hits and an HR. Zimmerman hit 3rd and faced a steady diet of strikes with Johnson already on base and Dunn on deck. And, with Johnson and Zimmerman on base, Dunn hit a 3R HR…. My lineup is a winner, Bobby.
