The Morning After: March 19, 2009

By mizerle06

Happy Thursday!  There’s not much going on today so I guess I can give you some of my same ole, same ole ”this day in history”-type trivia…just kidding!  It’s NCAA Tournament Day!  Other than that, there’s probably not much going on!  And, I’m using too many exclamations!!

I’m just so jacked up about the tournament that I can’t help but use exclamation points-a-plenty.  So…ummm, sorry?

Anywho, we’ve got a big day ahead of us.  By the way, if anybody would like to figure out which games my local CBS affiliate will be broadcasting for me, please, feel free to help a brotha out.  I can’t figure out which games to plan for.

Here’s the slate of awesomeness that we can expect for today:

12:20 PM ET LSU vs. Butler
12:25 PM ET Memphis vs. Cal State Northridge
12:30 PM ET Brigham Young vs. Texas A&M
2:30 PM ET Purdue vs. Northern Iowa
2:50 PM ET North Carolina vs. Radford
2:55 PM ET California vs. Maryland
3:00 PM ET Connecticut vs. Chattanooga
5:00 PM ET Washington vs. Mississippi State
7:10 PM ET Texas vs. Minnesota
7:10 PM ET Clemson vs. Michigan
7:20 PM ET Villanova vs. American University
7:25 PM ET Gonzaga vs. Akron
9:40 PM ET Duke vs. Binghamton
9:40 PM ET Oklahoma vs. Morgan State
9:50 PM ET UCLA vs. Virginia Commonwealth
9:55 PM ET Illinois vs. Western Kentucky

I’m not going to inundate you with links about the tournament.  You’ve probably gotten enough of that already and are just ready to get to the games.

OK…maybe just one linky: this d00d thinks he knows who the bracket busters will be.  Personally, I think it starts with, and ends with, the Vols.

You guys remember Aaron Effing Boone?  He’s the guy that ripped the hearts out of Red Sawx fans in 2003.  Now, he’s got his own heart problems…of a different kind though.

I feel this woman’s pain.  No, $53k a week is definitely not enough.  I’ve been offered multiple jobs since my layoff and nobody has even come close to $53k a week.  How am I supposed to live on less?  I gotta feed my kids…ok, I don’t have kids.  Whatever.

The Celtics wrapped up the Atlantic Division title last night in their win over the Heat.

More beisbol…Manny’s hammy is good enough for some cricket?

Kobe was back in court yesterday.

The Gators beat up on neighbor Jacksonville U in their NIT game last night.  Those Gators…they’re very mean and place no value in or appreciate friendly relationships with their northeast neighbors.  Oh, there’s some other NIT notes in there too.

The Lance Armstrong of dogsledding, Lance Mackey, won the Tour de France of dogsledding, the Iditarod, yesterday.  It was his third straight win

OK…one more college roundball linky: it’s looking like a greater possibility that Ty Lawson will maybe be definitely out for UNC’s first round game against Radford.  Book the Heels for a loss.  Yeah, yeah…I know it would be a 16 over a 1 and it’s never happened before.  Listen, it’s gotta happen sometime and what better story would there be than a supposedly inferior opponent surviving Tyler Hansbrah mouth-breathing all over them and emerging victorious?  Sounds like the hero cinderella story this country needs right now.

The Youk is “Duke”.  By the way, to be “Duke” means to be out of a tournament well before the final game.

Very sad news.

Stephen Garcia is actually participating in spring practice for South Cackalacky.  (+1 to whoever came up with the column heading)

Screw it…one more b-ball link – apparently, Coach Krzyzasdjklhgeweriuhski thinks President Obammer should be focusing on more pressing national issues in place of his tournament brackets.  I think Coach Krzyzgvvbtnilqaewrvbtliski just got his panties in a wad since Obammer picked UNC as his champ.

NASCAR’s taking the circuit to Thunder Valley this weekend to visit The World’s Fastest Halfmile (Bristol, TN).  The track is 15 minutes from the house I grew up in…it truly is a spectacular coliseumish-arena.  During the races, we would sometimes go to my grandparents’ house in Blountville, TN (about 5 miles from the track) and the cars would be so loud that we could always hear a low roar that echoed through the hollows all the way to my grandparents’ house.  Expect a 165,000-strong packed house this weekend.  In stockcar racing news, the economy is hitting the big wigs pretty hard and the Reverand Hal Marchman has passed away – he gave the invocation before the Daytona 500 every year from the first race in 1959 until 2004.

As Patphish and these cows can attest to, living under power lines does have a disorienting effect on daily life.

Famed moonshiner, Popcorn Sutton, has also passed away.  Pour one out for Ol’ Popcorn tonight.   (/miz is a redneck)

ED. Note: Commenter jpmanahan has hit the big time and written a preview for tonight’s 5-seed Illini vs. 12-seed Western KY.
