Happy Thursday! There’s not much going on today so I guess I can give you some of my same ole, same ole ”this day in history”-type trivia…just kidding! It’s NCAA Tournament Day! Other than that, there’s probably not much going on! And, I’m using too many exclamations!!
I’m just so jacked up about the tournament that I can’t help but use exclamation points-a-plenty. So…ummm, sorry?
Anywho, we’ve got a big day ahead of us. By the way, if anybody would like to figure out which games my local CBS affiliate will be broadcasting for me, please, feel free to help a brotha out. I can’t figure out which games to plan for.
Here’s the slate of awesomeness that we can expect for today:
| 12:20 PM ET | LSU vs. | Butler |
| 12:25 PM ET | Memphis vs. | Cal State Northridge |
| 12:30 PM ET | Brigham Young vs. | Texas A&M |
| 2:30 PM ET | Purdue vs. | Northern Iowa |
| 2:50 PM ET | North Carolina vs. | Radford |
| 2:55 PM ET | California vs. | Maryland |
| 3:00 PM ET | Connecticut vs. | Chattanooga |
| 5:00 PM ET | Washington vs. | Mississippi State |
| 7:10 PM ET | Texas vs. | Minnesota |
| 7:10 PM ET | Clemson vs. | Michigan |
| 7:20 PM ET | Villanova vs. | American University |
| 7:25 PM ET | Gonzaga vs. | Akron |
| 9:40 PM ET | Duke vs. | Binghamton |
| 9:40 PM ET | Oklahoma vs. | Morgan State |
| 9:50 PM ET | UCLA vs. | Virginia Commonwealth |
| 9:55 PM ET | Illinois vs. | Western Kentucky |
I’m not going to inundate you with links about the tournament. You’ve probably gotten enough of that already and are just ready to get to the games.
OK…maybe just one linky: this d00d thinks he knows who the bracket busters will be. Personally, I think it starts with, and ends with, the Vols.
You guys remember Aaron Effing Boone? He’s the guy that ripped the hearts out of Red Sawx fans in 2003. Now, he’s got his own heart problems…of a different kind though.
I feel this woman’s pain. No, $53k a week is definitely not enough. I’ve been offered multiple jobs since my layoff and nobody has even come close to $53k a week. How am I supposed to live on less? I gotta feed my kids…ok, I don’t have kids. Whatever.
The Celtics wrapped up the Atlantic Division title last night in their win over the Heat.
More beisbol…Manny’s hammy is good enough for some cricket?
Kobe was back in court yesterday.
The Gators beat up on neighbor Jacksonville U in their NIT game last night. Those Gators…they’re very mean and place no value in or appreciate friendly relationships with their northeast neighbors. Oh, there’s some other NIT notes in there too.
The Lance Armstrong of dogsledding, Lance Mackey, won the Tour de France of dogsledding, the Iditarod, yesterday. It was his third straight win.
OK…one more college roundball linky: it’s looking like a greater possibility that Ty Lawson will maybe be definitely out for UNC’s first round game against Radford. Book the Heels for a loss. Yeah, yeah…I know it would be a 16 over a 1 and it’s never happened before. Listen, it’s gotta happen sometime and what better story would there be than a supposedly inferior opponent surviving Tyler Hansbrah mouth-breathing all over them and emerging victorious? Sounds like the hero cinderella story this country needs right now.
The Youk is “Duke”. By the way, to be “Duke” means to be out of a tournament well before the final game.
Stephen Garcia is actually participating in spring practice for South Cackalacky. (+1 to whoever came up with the column heading)
Screw it…one more b-ball link – apparently, Coach Krzyzasdjklhgeweriuhski thinks President Obammer should be focusing on more pressing national issues in place of his tournament brackets. I think Coach Krzyzgvvbtnilqaewrvbtliski just got his panties in a wad since Obammer picked UNC as his champ.
NASCAR’s taking the circuit to Thunder Valley this weekend to visit The World’s Fastest Halfmile (Bristol, TN). The track is 15 minutes from the house I grew up in…it truly is a spectacular coliseumish-arena. During the races, we would sometimes go to my grandparents’ house in Blountville, TN (about 5 miles from the track) and the cars would be so loud that we could always hear a low roar that echoed through the hollows all the way to my grandparents’ house. Expect a 165,000-strong packed house this weekend. In stockcar racing news, the economy is hitting the big wigs pretty hard and the Reverand Hal Marchman has passed away – he gave the invocation before the Daytona 500 every year from the first race in 1959 until 2004.
As Patphish and these cows can attest to, living under power lines does have a disorienting effect on daily life.
Famed moonshiner, Popcorn Sutton, has also passed away. Pour one out for Ol’ Popcorn tonight. (/miz is a redneck)
ED. Note: Commenter jpmanahan has hit the big time and written a preview for tonight’s 5-seed Illini vs. 12-seed Western KY.

The exclamation points didn’t bother me near as much as the question mark did. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
you get so hung up on the simplest things, kwsn. you’re such a girl? mizerle06(Quote)
t-minus 5 hours and 56 minutes! mizerle06(Quote)
I think Coach Hitler should spend more time trying to keep his team from flaming out in the 2nd round as usual than worrying about Barry’s Baracket. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
popcorn died? He was one of the last few that legitimately did the prospector dance. Seriously, he did it for the history channel. Good find miz, sorry to hear about your cousin. GatorTrey(Quote)
I hate writing this post… guyinthecorner(Quote)
cousin schmousin. his clan was mortal enemies with my clan. he’s been trying to muscle his white lightnin’ into our neck of the woods for decades and now it’s over. mizerle06(Quote)
what are you talking about, gitc? TMA? mizerle06(Quote)
by the way, if you read that article about Popcorn, check out the comments. it only took four hours and dozens of comments about Popcorn’s American heroness before a reasonable person showed up. ugh, shit like that is the only thing that makes me glad I’m not living there anymore. mizerle06(Quote)

JP- well done dude, well done. sparty(Quote)
Miz – Ask for broadcast layouts, and you shall receive. I’ll see if I can find something better, but this is a start:

7:38, but I’m on spring break, I have a duty to sleep until tip-off. JRod(Quote)
*sigh* this is my first opening Thursday in about 5 years where I have not taken it off. Stupid meetings from 11:30 till 2. HawkEye19(Quote)
miz–You gonna put in an entry for the S&F Tournament Challenge? Didn’t see your name on there. rekcalsa(Quote)
gotcha, JRod. since you’re up, make yourself useful and write some posts to send me for links in Happy Hour. mizerle06(Quote)
thanks for the reminder, rek. I forgot all about that one. mizerle06(Quote)
Geeze giving me homework, I don’t even know what to write, so much pressure… JRod(Quote)
Miz, congrats on the Bryce Brown thing… haven’t talked to you in a bit. illformula(Quote)
Tennessee is gonna end up in so much trouble… sparty(Quote)
thanks, ill. kiffin’s definitely landed some big-name recruits…we just need to see what he can do with them on the field. and hopefully he can keep his freakin’ mouth shut. mizerle06(Quote)
uh oh? why sparty? or is this a joke?
Btw, my boss (huge Yankees fan) and I are going to the Orioles season opener against the Yanks on April 6th. We have a rule that whoevers team loses is responsible for reimbursing the other person for tickets and beer. The O’s managed an upset last year, I’m not that optimistic this year. illformula(Quote)
just got at work. it got edited out, i guess.
jap is in his final year at wku. he will in all likelihood be the top player picked in our local bball draft if he goes back home. jpmanahan(Quote)
oh yeah, i finally got a twtwcb guest post up containing purely mid-majors sent to mikey for his editing. jpmanahan(Quote)
sparty just likes to bust my ballz a bit about kiffin, ill. pay him no mind. mizerle06(Quote)
kiffin=death penalty for the Vols. sparty(Quote)
jp – so I guess he was there during the end of Elgrace Wilborn tenure? Elgrace played at Tennessee for a couple of years before transferring to the Hilltoppers. he was a serious, high-flying dunker but that was the extent of his “range.” mizerle06(Quote)
see what I mean, ill? mizerle06(Quote)
just 2 years. lucked out in being in the sweet 16 last yr. he got hurt and was left out of rotation both years. jpmanahan(Quote)
There’s only 4 people doing the Hardcourt challenge so far. It’s like the gridiron challenge we did for the NFL playoffs only with college basketball players instead.

Livin the hard knock life huh, Miz? illformula(Quote)
re: kwsn and Hardcourt challenge
The password is spartan.
You pick 8 players for each weekend, so you want to pick players who will make it past the first game each weekend sae(Quote)
absolutely, ill. it’s mostly due to sparty’s insecurity and his anticipation of his team’s certain impending gridiron doom this fall. he’s just getting his punches in while he can…kinda like kicking a Notre Dame fan right now…or any of the past several years, for that matter. mizerle06(Quote)
this week, you better know who you got in the sweet 16. jpmanahan(Quote)
/what he meant to say sparty(Quote)
Haha. How’s the job search coming? They still have cotton pickers in Tennessee? illformula(Quote)
it’s coming, ill. thanks for asking. I’ve got a couple of decent prospects. the waiting part is killing me right now, though. mizerle06(Quote)
at least you get to watch all the games today and tomorrow, right?
I’m in a different situation than you (no attachments), but I’ve already told myself that if I lose my job because of the economy … I’m dumping most my shit and moving to Nicaragua or Costa Rica for a few years. Nice beaches, good fishing. illformula(Quote)
absolutely; I’m watching games all day today and tomorrow.
and, not to burst your bubble, but the Jacksonville-area has nice beaches and good fishing too. I enjoyed both last weekend. mizerle06(Quote)
I’m not much on Florida. A couple of friends and I try to go down to Central America once a year for surfing and fishing. It’s much peaceful and less costly. The plane ticket is the most expensive portion of the trip. illformula(Quote)
sounds cool, ill. I have a buddy that spen a few months in costa rica after we graduated college and basically fished and chilled out all day. he loved it. mizerle06(Quote)
Sun and sand are very over rated. Give me trees and rocky lakes any day of the week. HawkEye19(Quote)
I gre up with trees and rocky lakes, hawkeye. I love them too. but, now that I live in sand and sun, I have an intense appreciation for both environments. mizerle06(Quote)
I could do that as well, hawkeye. I love the mountains. This is just my cheap bailout plan for myself if I lose my job. illformula(Quote)
Yeah, I couldn’t work with that much sun and warmth. Too cold blooded by this time. Thankfully, where I live works out pretty well. HawkEye19(Quote)
