clayton- we polled all kinds of people for the show list. we tried to grab shows that were not only popular in the ratings, but memorable to their generation as well. Too Close for Comfort was one of those shows.

Though Trey and I would have elected Herman’s Head.  (Quote)

I’ll be 49 in July. I’m WELL seasoned. It seems like I voted for a lot of underdogs in this tourney. 3 of the 16 shows I never watched a minute of, Facts of Life +/- is 10 minutes max. Raymond is great, especially when you have kids, and The “The Bob Newhart Show” owned “Newhart”.

    you aren’t married, right?

good tv are shows that earn money for a network. 2 1/2 men has done just that. why? because it has super high ratings. is it a critical darling? no. but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good tv. the brady bunch didn’t do its job originally, but in syndication it kicked ass and made multiple networks a lot of money via ads during its time. again, you lack the understanding between knowledge and wisdom.  (Quote)

TV shows that earn money are profitable tv shows, not necessarily good tv shows. Good is subjective…profitable is black and white. To make the leap that profitable equals good requires the caveat that if a lot of people are watching, it is good. And if you say that, then you must accept that the American viewing public has good taste. And here is where the equation fails.  (Quote)

Knightro is right. It’s not that their aren’t shows that have good ratings that are good. Sure there are. But ratings prove nothing. Nobody watched Better Off Ted, yet it was without a doubt one of the west 5 sitcoms of the past year.  (Quote)

I have not, do not, and will not watch(ed) American Idol. But I believe that there have been and currently are worse shows on TV. Any show in the so-called reality genre is a waste of so many resources on so many levels it literally makes my head hurt. Those types of shows make a boatload of money and are popular with the networks because the production costs of such shows are small compared to sitcoms, dramas, etc. They are popular because they make the public feel better about being teh Jersey Shore rejects they are in their own lives.
