At least in Super Bowl history it is. The New Orleans Saints were trailing 10-6 at the half of Super Bowl 44, and coach Sean Payton called for one of the gutsiest plays in all of Super Bowl history. Garrett HartleyThomas Morstead drove the ball into the turf, and the Saints recovered the onside kick to jump start their offense. They would score on the ensuing drive to take a 13-10 lead. Though Indy would regain the lead later, if it wasn’t for this play, the Saints may have not been able to get themselves back in the game had the Colts scored on the opening drive.
For the third year in a row, a spectacular play defines the Super Bowl. 2 Years ago it was David Tyree’s helmet catch. Last year it was James Harrison’s rumbling bumbling INT return for a TD, and this year it was the New Orleans onside kick. I say without question these 3 are all within the top 5 of all-time Super Bowl plays. Tyree is still #1.

Thomas Morstead kicked the onside kick.
Hartley did come up huge with his three field goals. Kept expecting him to miss.

This play was so much different than the other two. You don’t execute, the Colts are a few yards away from at least a FG.
I credit Sean Payton. It was a ballsy and great call.

So Whitlock is insane:
His 5 best current QB’s:
1) Brady
2) Brees
3) Big Ben
4) Manning
5) Favre

Too much David Tyree.

There is NO sport with a greater overreaction factor than NFL football.
Manning is STILL the best QB in football, so he threw a big pick. Indy’s defense should be on the hook more.

When the Saints were stuffed on 3rd down at the goal line I fully expected them to kick the field goal. Give the ball back to Manning. Manning drive them down for a TD before the half. Manning take the opening kick down for another TD to put the game out of reach. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out

that can’t be his real list. Jeff George > all others.
Big Ben doesn’t belong on that list

nice catch. fixed

I agree with everything you said and I don’t even like manning

patphish and i were discussing the manning throw to clark. may have been the best pass ever in super bowl history.

Eli should be on that list!

btw, the interception was huge, too.

I’ve thrown bigger INTs in my days…Threw a big one in Law School flag football. Cost us the game.

but the signature play for this SB was the onside kick. the interception and garcon’s drop will be forgotten
