BREAKING NEWS: Michigan State Joins Turf Wars

Eastern Washington’s recent announcement of their switch to red turf fired a rocket powered flare in college football that can mean only one thing. Turf Wars is on!

Boise State has long held the title of the only team in college football with a queer looking turf. “I take a lot of pride in knowing we’re aiding optometrists across the country,” said Nelson “Squeaks” Johnson, a long time Boise State season ticket holder. ” Sure watching the lights glisten off the blue turf has been pegged as the second leading cause of cataracts in the country, but it’s unusual. Like watching them nudie movies. You know somethings wrong, but damn if it just feels right.” Like Eastern Washington, Boise State’s turf is a product of the official school color.

This past week, Michigan State University, a school on the constant conquest for an identity in football, decided to follow EWU and Boise State and laying their own special turf. Athletic Director Mark Hollis addressed the media, “We feel the MSU green turf will put us on that special map with Boise State and Eastern Washington, and ultimately help us create a unique image that will not only intimidate opposing players, but also give us more recognition nationally.”

MSU Green is the school’s official color and is used throughout the campus and their website.

There has been no timeline set to lay the new MSU green surface, but stadium employees figure that with football season over, they’ll be yanking up the old surface any day now to make way for the new turf. “Unique. And I’m damn proud to be a part of this,” said Gully McSkittles, “It should attract several TV cameras. You know, to see a field like Boise State has. They’re a national power because of that crazy colored turf, the same could easily happen here.”

Gully would know. He’s been living and working at Spartan Stadium since 1958 when he was chased by an angry mob on the first annual “Beat a Ginger Day”.

“This is my home,” Gully said with tears in his eyes, “I can’t wait to see that new green turf, and I know ESPN won’t either.”

Michigan State plans to unveil the new field with a large expensive gala sometime this spring.
