Could Touchdown Jesus Turn to SatanSaban?

By sparty

0-4-touchdown-jesusEveryone is throwing names around for the job that technically isn’t even available, and we thought we would get in on the action. After all, we created a shitfirestorm last year with a big coaching rumor.

Nick Saban.*

I know, I know. He is the head coach of one of the biggest programs in the history of college football.  Bammer is about to make their second straight SEC Title game appearance in only his third year as coach.  Hell, they might even be playing for a National Title this season.  Why the hell would Nick Saban even consider going to Notre Dame?

Honestly, this is the reason that coaches generally take any other job offer.  It is the same reason people keep throwing Urban Meyer’s name out there.  Notre Dame is a giant Catholic school.  Forget alumni funds, forget budgets, this school is tied into the richest religion on this planet.  They can always trump someone if they want. Have you noticed that the architecture on campus looks awfully like HQ.  The money is there.

Notre Dame wants a big name.  They are going to go after someone to make a splash. They tried the longtime assistant route, it failed.  They went for a guy that wasn’t in the Notre Dame mold at all, and failed.   They brought in a hot shot Super Bowl champion coordinator, and it too has failed.  Forget Brian Kelly.  Nice choice, but not the guy to lead ND back to prominence. They need go after the brass ring here. The list at ND looks like this: Stoops, Meyer, Saban.  Don’t think so?  Just watch.

Has Nick Saban ever stayed anywhere in his coaching career?  He is like the Larry Brown of football.  Pros or college, big school or not, he bails at the first shot of a new money making endeavor. He has never stayed anywhere longer than 5 years.  He turned LSU into a national power and champion and still left.  It isn’t like he just made them really competitive than decided to move on to bigger and better things.  He reached the pinnacle of college football and bailed for the Dolphins.  Even though he had nothing to work with in Miami, he had a big time NFL coaching gig and was not in danger of losing his job, but as soon as Bammer brought the big bags of loot, Saban headed north to Tuscaloosa.

Oh, and he’s Catholic.

And the most important factor: He has no buyout in his current contract with Bammer.

*I do not think he will be the next Notre Dame coach, but nothing is out of the question when it comes to that guy.

I actually may become a full time UConn fan if this were to happen. I don’t think I have it in me to root for The King of All Douche Rockets.

I’ll rehash the scenario sparty and I previously discussed this morning:

me: they should offer Saban and Meyer each about $10 million a year but not tell either that the other is being offered. then, both will accept the job at the same time but only one can get it. then they have to fight to the death for the job and Saban wins easy cause Urban is a pussy. but, Saban then gets offed by a Bammer fan and ND has to re-hire Ty Willingham because nobody else is available.

me: forgot about him. Fulmer takes the job after Saban kills Meyer with his bare hands and the Bammer fan kills Saban.

And then heart disease kills Fulmer?

Homer Alert! Bama can match any offer Notre Dame puts out there. I don’t know which he’d chose, but the money wouldn’t be an issue and honestly I’d think Bama is the better job for the foreseeable future. He’s already succeeded here and is revered. He could become a legend here just as easily as he could at Notre Dame.

Also, I still don’t get all of the Nick Saban hate. I mean, Bobby Petrino snuck out in the middle of the night, Saban just wanted to wait until the end of the season. Is that really so bad?

I hate Saban because he coaches Bammer. it’s a pure, unadulterated hate too.

Seriously, we can. Up to about 10 mil a year, there wouldn’t even be a hesitation. One end zone expansion was completed in 06 (~50 mil) and inside of a year plans were drawn for another expansion (~80 mil). But in real terms, I think it is more likely that the next ND coach will get about 5.5 mil a year if it is a big name and the next tier (stoops, saban, carroll, meyer) will get a raise to about 5mil, unless one of them takes the job.

Really? Would you like him if you weren’t a Bammer fan?

You had me at the offer Meyer and Saban $10 Mil/year each to take the job. But, I think from there, it is a reverse auction. Put them in rooms side by side and walk back and forth as each one comes down. There’s probably a final number in the $6M range that either one of them would take — so you let them go progressively lower until one of them bails out and hire the other one.

I don’t think the ND administration is ready to turn over complete control to Saban. That would be admitting that he is bigger than the program. He’s a miserable SOB to deal with, but he would turn that program around just like he’s done at Bama.
