Seventh Inning Stretch-Food edition

By KnightWhoSaysNi

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I know we’re all looking forward to it. It is a glorious day of overeating and falling asleep while watching football games. How could life get any better than that? So, since I’m in anticipation mode, I thought I would share my top 5 thanksgiving foods:

1. Stuffing. Stuffing is just an amazing and wonderful thing. I could eat a whole plate of that and nothing else and be happy. It is also almost impossible to screw up. The combination of spices, bread, celery and onions is just perfect.

2. Mashed potatoes. If you make them right they are just amazing. They also act as a nice adhesive to scoop up all your veggies and other scraps left behind on the plate with. It also is great for making food sculptures with. So versatile.

3. Pie. Doesn’t matter if it’s pumpkin, apple or pecan or whatever. Pie is just delicious. You think you’re going to burst by that point but you still suck it up and make room.

4. Green Bean Caserole. Green beans normally suck, but put in some cream of mushroom soup and those crunchy onion thingies and all the sudden it is good. And you can then say you’re eating healthy to your significant other.

5. Rolls. The fresh made from scratch kind, not some cheapo things. I love fresh baked bread. It makes the whole house smell good.

Feel free to share your favorites. I know I didn’t include turkey but I’m a vegetarian, so yeah. And I am not about to include Tofurkey. Not happening.

In sports tonight:

CBB: Memphis vs. 1 Kansas
Gonzaga at 2 Michigan St.
Charlotte vs. 8 Duke
NC-Asheville at 11 Tennessee
Hofstra vs. 13 Connecticut
LA-Monroe at 17 Oklahoma
Arkansas vs. 22 Louisville
N. Illinois at 24 Illinois

NBA:Golden St. at Cleveland
Oklahoma City at Miami
Indiana at New Jersey
Clippers at New Orleans
Phoenix at Houston
Toronto at Denver
Chicago at Sacramento
Detroit at Lakers

NHL: Washington at Rangers
Carolina at Montreal
Toronto at Ottawa
San Jose at Nashville (just the thought of hockey in these 2 cities makes me want to puke)
Colorado at Calgary

I would have to say my list is as follows:

    1) Turkey – white and dark meat please
    2) Deviled eggs – not just any…my mom’s. She puts some crack like substance in hers that I cannot identify or get her to divulge. They are tangier than most others I have tasted. Good stuff.
    3) Mashed potatoes – I make mine with using red creamers with copious amounts of butter, buttermilk, chicken broth, and fresh smoked gouda cheese. Yummy.
    4) Stuffing – kwsn said it all above.
    5) Pie – pumpkin or my favorite…chocolate cream. No graham cracker crust…the real thing. Flaky and buttery.

Honorable mention – crescent rolls with butter, good authentic turkey gravy, honey baked ham

    I gotta go eat.

deviled eggs are the shit, and the way those potatoes are made sound delish.

I am intrigued by tonight’s Michigan St. game. I expect State to win pretty easily but Gonzaga should be a nice little test.

    Never sleep on the Zags

Has anybody even had a turkey from the honey baked ham company? I reserved one this year because I don’t really want to make one myself and I don’t feel like going out to another house for thanksgiving (I just want to spend the day decorating my tree, yes I’m always early with that)

Unless I’m a close friend with somebody I find it weird and awkward to go to somebody’s for Thanksgiving. That’s always been a family day for me

Going to the girlfriend’s family’s house (couple hours north of Orlando). They eat early around 1:00. Then going to try to hit my mom’s house after I get back. The following day I will probably submit my audition video for that Biggest Loser show.

Stuffing begins and ends with the giblets chopped up and mixed in. That makes a fine sandwich with turkey and gravy.

    Yum, now I’m hungry.

I’d have to agree that stuffing is the bomb. I put just a touch of gravy on it too, and eat it with some turkey and potatoes. My mouth is watering.

Just returned from the Cavs’ game…my first since LeBron arrived. Good seats too, which makes it or breaks it for me. Not with the richfolk, but not in the upper, upper “let-me-hold-the-conference-champions-banner” seats either.
