NFL Power Rankings: Bucking Broncos

By sae

A rough weekend in the picks again. As a group, we hit on 47% of our picks. Just look at the NFC East for the reasons behind this. The front runners lost, Dallas @ Green Bay (huge surprise) and Philly @ San Diego (much more believable). Of course, the shock of the entire weekend was Washington beating Denver.

The Giants moved up the real standings and my fake standings by kicking the crap out of Bye this week. The Bengals still received no respect, but continue to roll on the field. The Chefs grabbed their second win, beating the mighty Raiders. And Vince Young just wins football games, or whatever it’s called when you play Buffalo. (Chris Johnson may have something to do with it too: 232 total yards, 2 TDs)

Teams we love to hate

#1 Denver (89%, 11.1pts): Couldn’t stop an obvious trick punt play on 4th and 20? Yeah, you deserved to lose. It was a bad weekend for Belichick and sons of Belichick (McDaniels & Grimace).
#2 Atlanta (82%, 8.3): Who is this new QB Carolina has? They should sign him to a huge contract.
#3 Pittsburgh (79%, 7.2): This was a pretty ugly game, the only TD was on special teams (Pittsburgh’s special teams unit rides the short bus) and the extra point was blocked.
#4 Dallas (76%, 7.3): Not unhappy with this loss at all, even with the 13 points I had on Dallas (reverse jinx!). Romo wasn’t isn’t very good, Charles Woodson was phenomenal.
#5 New York Jets (76%, 6.4): MJD takes a knee on the 1 to run down the clock before kicking the game winner. Jets tried the old Holmgren Super Bowl trick of letting the team score to have more time to come back. Didn’t work then either.

Power Ranking Buster

#23 Cincinnati (7-2): Bengals fan(s) I’m sorry for this, but I’m one of the people who hasn’t been taking them seriously. Let’s see if 7 weeks are enough to climb to a respectable level. Upcoming schedule: @Oak, Cle, Det, @Min, SD, KC, @NYJ. They should be heavily favored in 5 of those games.

Maybe this thing works after all

#6 Green Bay (5-4): On the surface the 6 ranking looks crazy, especially after losing to Tampa Bay last week. However, the much maligned D that gave up 38 in back to back losses stymied the NFC East leaders. No truth to the rumor it was because Kampman was concussed and didn’t play…or is there?
