First, I need to apologize for a small error in the rankings the first couple of weeks. Some formulas didn’t update properly when we added a few extra people earlier in the season. After correcting the formulas it barely affected the rankings at all. The affected teams were: Pittsburgh and GB swapped the 5 and 6 spots, Cincinnati and Atlanta swapped 17 and 18, Houston and Jacksonville swapped 20 and 21.
With that out of the way, on to the latest rankings.
Not a very competitive week, most of the top teams played I-AA teams. There were a ridiculous amount of blowouts. At least I was able to watch arguably the most competitive game: Vikings @ Steelers.
Great week overall in the picks. The masses hit 77% of their picks. And if the majority of them weren’t delusional Bears fans, it would’ve been 85%. Our winner scored a mind-numbing 89 out of 91, pulling a Delhomme on the Buffalo/Carolina game.
Teams people swear by at
#1: NY Giants: We must be listening to too much propaganda on a popular sports blog. I guess the loss to the ‘Aints should’ve been a clue. I’m thinking they’ll be falling from their #2 power ranking now. 92% got burned here at a 7.2 clip.
#2: Carolina: They were the 25th ranked team and everyone (84% anyway) went for the upset over the 24th ranked Bills.
#3: Chicago (70%): This is a little fluky because this is a Bear fan heavy pick ‘em group. Common sense ruled for me and I picked the Bengals. Another funny thing was one Bear fan switched his 7 from Cincy to the Bears at the last minute and we told him he was high at the time.
Where my rankings spit in the face of traditional power rankings
#1: Denver (6-0, #18): The good news is they climbed 4 spots during their bye week. The bad news is they’re in Baltimore next week and probably still won’t get very much respect.
#2: Cincinnati (5-2, #22): They actually dropped (5 spots!) due to the Bear fan heavy nature of my sample. Let’s see if the bye week favors them as it did the Broncos.
#3: Green Bay (4-2, #4): A soft spot in their schedule is still inflating their worth. Look for a regression as they face the Petersons Favres (stupid Childress) this weekend.
5 strong over the long haul
#1: Minnesota: Opened the season at their lowest ranking of #4, spent four separate weeks at #1.
#2: Indianapolis: Opened at #7 and steadily climbed to the #1 spot this week.
#3: New England: Opened at #2 and never lower than #8.
#4a: New Orleans: Opened at #1, and have been woefully underrated dropping to #8.
#4b: NY Giants: Lowest ranking of #12, and currently inexplicably ranked #2. Their proper place is probably closer to that low end.
Demotion time?
Time for the NFL to consider sending the Rams down and bringing up the Tuskers.

Woo hoo! Go Tuskers…

Did we use some GITC formula here? I fail to see the logic of the 0-6 Titans ranked above the 2-4 Dolphins. I think we can keep it within 59 of the Pats.
Also Redskins at 13?

Anyone know how the UFL is doing overall? I haven’t heard or read anything about it.

it’s not like you can gamble or get a hooker or anything, right?

There were “12,000″ fans at the Tuskers game last week. Friend told me it was more like 5,000…I know they’ve moved their games from AT&T Park (where they had “6,000″) and Citi Field.

It’s more of a perceived power ranking rather than an actual power ranking

Exactly, Redskins had been favored in 5 straight games until last night.
Giants are complete flukefrauds, much like the 49ers.
