The Morning After: October 10, 2009

By sparty

A-Rod is ClutchSee any good games last night?  I sure as hell did.

So much for Alex Rodriguez not coming through in the clutch! If it weren’t for A-Rod, the Yankees would not have taken the Twins to extra innings, as he drove in the first 3 Yankees runs.  His ninth inning heroics may have finally won him the respect of the Yankee Universe, because a home run like that will endear you for life in the Bronx, just ask Chad Curtis.  But even with Alex’s game tying shot off of Joe Nathan, there was even a bigger HR later in the game.  Mark Teixeira also officially earned in his pinstripes and hit a laser over the left field wall in the 11th inning to win the game.  In a season full of walkoffs at new Yankee Stadium, including 3 straight against the Twins earlier in the year, this shouldn’t have been too surprising.  These are two true Yankees.  That just pisses you off when we say that, right?

And stop being mad about the blown call in the top half of the 11th.  If it were called correctly, there is no telling how the inning plays out.  There were several chances to get Mauer in.  He even had a chance while he was still on second, but the third base coach didn’t send him on a Michael Cuddyer single.  Had there been a man on 2nd or 3rd when Mauer hit that, then I think there is reason for Twins fans to be up in arms, but the fact is that he was just the leadoff man.  The umpire admits he blew the call, but it happens.  It didn’t cost them the game.  Joe Nathan, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira are real the reason the Twins are down 2-0.

The Angels are up 2-0 on the Sox.  Not sure how I feel about that.  I’d still rather play the Sox in the ALCS, but maybe it is time to exorcise some demons.

There is no chance that Chip Carey gets dropped, even though last night he was just as bad.  I can deal with play-by-play guys that are self indulgent, or don’t bring excitement to their call of the greatest play in the history of a Super Bowl, but just not having a clue is unacceptable.

Braves will consider any trades for Derek Lowe.  Hmmmmm, think the Mets can give up Oliver Perez?

Not sure if Tim Tebow is playing tonight, but you know what?  It don’t matter.  The Gators are just sooooo much better than the Tigers.

For all the criticism everybody gives Terrelle Pryor, guy is putting up some pretty impressive numbers.

Oklahoma may have Sam Bradford back today, but they are scrambling for wide receivers.  Funny, this was my point to Trey at the start of the season.

Eric Berry is just not the most awesomest college football player, but also a humbled individual.

Just a note:  Midnight Madness is next Friday.  That means the Spartans begin their grueling march to Indianapolis.  They don’t lose there in the tourney.

Stephen Jackson to the Cavs?  Now that could swing some power back to the Cavs.

Michael Vick only playing one season in Philly? No way! I am shocked!!!  Tennessee needs to be all over that.

We got football later, here is a look at the Game of the Week in the Bayou by our friends at College Game Balls.

I am just linking to Midwest Sports Fans because I like the new look of the site and they are doing an awesome job of keeping people updated on, well, everything.
