October baseball is finally here. Go ahead and say that it was here yesterday if you want, but what is essentially was a play-in game doesn’t count. Congrats to the Twins on winning the Central Division and proving once again that wise scouting and and shrewd moves can be just as successful as spending money to get yourself to the playoffs. Salary cap, bah. Unfortunately for them, they now get to play against the Yankees as a reward. Let’s put it this way, the Twins beating the Yankees would be the biggest shocker in playoff history. Why? Because the Twins just don’t beat the Yankees in a series. Like ever.
The first round is going to play itself out the way it should. The LCS match-ups are inevitable. The Angels have as much success against the Sox in the playoffs as the Twins do against the Yanks. Joe Torre has absolutely destroyed the arms on the Dodgers, much like he did to the Yankees staff his last few years in the Bronx. The Rockies are a nice turn around story, but the Phillies are going to smoke them.
If you are looking for an ultimate breakdown of each series, you are at the wrong place. We will save that energy until the LCS’. In the meantime, here is how it goes:
Yanks in 3, MVP: ARod
Sox in 3, MVP: Ellsbury
Cards in 3, MVP: Holliday
Phillies in 4, MVP: Utley
Yep, pretty boring first round. But the next one will be awesome.

Everyone loves the Cardinals, so I’m sticking to my pick of Dodgers over Yankees. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
A Yankees fan actually called into a radio show on WEEI last week and predicted that because the Red Sox were limping to the finish line that they had no chance against the Angels. He then picked LA to win the series…
… in 6.
One of the hosts (after he stopped laughing) said “You know, if that series gets to six games I think I like the Angels’ chances too.”
Classic. Big D(Quote)
The Yanks dropping 4 straight games to piss away their World Series chances? I would. HawkEye19(Quote)
You’re right, two different categories.

my question: if the cubs ever win the world series, is there anything that could possibly be a bigger shock than that? sae(Quote)
an economic turnaround of any kind in Detroit would be the biggest shocker in the history of history. sparty(Quote)
Yes, the Browns having consecutive winning seasons. HawkEye19(Quote)

I am also curious to see how he is going to do. I think now that he ditched the wife and is free to do large blond muscular women as much as he wants, he will be on fire. cycledan(Quote)
Is it morally wrong to root for a lot of injuries in the Angels-Bosox series? cycledan(Quote)
law of averages, fellas. everything balances out. it is his time to right the ship. sparty(Quote)
won’t root for injuries, because i don’t want to hear that excuse when we beat them. sparty(Quote)

Lifelong Cards fan here(50+ years) and I’m predicting L.A. in 4. STL’s bullpen has caved in the last three weeks, Pineiro seems to have hit the proverbial wall, and LH have completely owned the Cardinals this year. Guess what Torre has going in Games 1 & 2; LH. Plus, St. Louis’ bench is immensely weak. Bruce(Quote)
