The Morning After: October 1, 2009

By mizerle06

tmalogoGood morning Friends.  In case you didn’t hear, our digs here were featured as the SportsNation Site of the Day yesterday…pretty sweet.  Welcome to any new readers we may have this morning.  Thanks for stopping by and we hope you stay around and hang out for a while.  In case you’re reading for the first time, this is our morning sports link page where we take links, both that we find and those that have been sent to us, that we find interesting and pass them along to you.  Oh, and if you need a coffee or would like a beer, holler at mikey…he’ll be happy to get it to you.

It’s hard to believe it’s October, huh?  Is it cooling off where you guys are yet?  We had our first 50 degree-ish morning this morning here in northeast Florida.  Fall is here, football is in full swing, and baseball is almost over getting close to its playoffs …what more could you ask for!?  Maybe the NBA starting up and NCAA roundball following soon thereafter?  Coming soon…

Wanna guess who has a new endorsement?  If Nike makes a shoe for him, $50 says they don’t name it the Air Bud.  /wokka wokka wokka

Are you peeved at your significant other?  Does he or she own goldfish?  Take my advice: you should fry them and eat them

Your weekend football announcing schedules: NCAA and NFL.

Some updates on some significant college football injuries: USC’s Stafon Johnson, UF’s Timmy Tebow, OU’s Sammy Bradford, ND’s James Clausen.

Jeff Gordon doesn’t think the Chase fits his style.  Somebody call a waaaaaaaaambulance, please.

When you decide on a team nickname, only then can you have an Auburn Walk.

No Tweeting during NBA games.

Some stuff you probably didn’t know that you needed to know about the ACC this week.

Farve-ageddon is Monday night…here’s a video to get you ready.

Tiger Woods is our first billion dollar athlete.  Yes, billion…with a “b”.

Emmanuel Negedu basically just died and was revived…very scary stuff.

Urban’s been Meyer’d mired in a bit of controversy since last Saturday’s visit to KY.  He shouldn’t be blamed.

The #7 Big XII vs. the #4 Big East…good idea.

The Domer is out…the Browns are changing QB’s.

Secret fast food items.

Speaking of food…so Big Papi’s gonna restart his cycles?

Is Mike Holmgren next in line to fail in D.C.?

Left turns and practical jokes.

Al Jefferson is working on a Subway endorsement (scroll about 2/3 down).

For a mere $3G you can have a bunch of phone numbers and text messages from the U of Mizzou.

Mike Vick has a voodoo doll?  That explains a lot.

And, just in case you’re still upset about Texas’ exclusion from last year’s BCS championship game and Oklahoma’s inclusion:

jpq over at TBL directed me to a deal on Direct TV. Full year of Center Ice for $160. I think that will be in the HawkEye household by Halloween.  (Quote)

Yeah that’s about what it is for Comcast people too. If I could order it online I’d buy it, but they make you order it off the phone (or at least they did last year) and from previous experiences dealing with that company over the phone is an exercise in futility  (Quote)

That one I do not get. Although I get the NFL and MLB networks. Riddle me that one.  (Quote)

    From the article…

While the new playoff format hasn’t been kind to Gordon, he’s not advocating a return to the old season-long points system — even though he prefers it.

“I think they have got it pretty good right now,” Gordon said.

“call a waaaaaaaaambulance”? Really? Tsk tsk, miz.

I pay for an extra sports package with Cablevision that gets me Versus, MLB, ESPN classic and News. However NFL channel is not available and the package doesn’t include the Big10 or NBA channel. Luckily I am not a Big 10 fan or NBA fan.

I also noticed that Cablevision stopped carrying Fox Sports (they don’t cover any local teams anymore so nobody really cares) and replaced it with MSG+ (which Cablevision owns).

I would like to get the Setanta (sp?) channel which covers Euro sports such as rugby.

Also the new Universal Sports (NBC station) is great. I get all my cycling coverage including track and field, and swimming events and of course lots of beach volleyball.  (Quote)
