The Morning After: September 26, 2009

By sparty

tma-2Today marks the anniversary of Thomas Jefferson becoming the first Secretary of State for this country.  Jefferson is also my favorite of all times, even though he stupidly put that embargo in place.  Unfortunately, he never regretted that, but he was ashamed of how he handled the Louisiana Purchase, more specifically the funding of Lewis and Clark.  See, Jefferson actually got it.

1960- Richard Nixon and John F Kennedy debated one another on national TV.  Forget political experience and agenda! It was here that the country decided to vote for the good looking guy who didn’t blend in with the background.

1969 The Beatles released their last studio album, Abbey Road.

1981 – Nolan Ryan sets an MLB record 5th no-hitter.  He would throw 2 more.

Usually Miz does that, but I have nothing to talk to you about this morning.

The Yanks took another step closer to locking up the AL East, and the Red Sox have concern over Jon Lester.

The Tigers are doing their very best to choke away the AL Central, as the Twins continue their late push.

The Braves are trying to cut into the Wild Card race in the NL, but the Rockies are not giving up ground.

I guess we called races a little too early a few weeks ago.  Glad to see there is something to track in the Majors before October arrives.

The talk about Joe Mauer’s future contract is already starting up, one year early.  Will the Twins step up to the plate, or try to trade him like they did Santana? I actually have a hard time thinking that Mauer plays catcher is whole career, that’s why I can’t see the Yankees signing him.

LeBron James continues to show how he has very little class and grace.  I don’t think he cares, that’s why he won’t ever shake his opponents hands when he loses.

Florida continues to be scared of traveling west of Arkansas.  Sissies.  Trey, there is no way you can argue for Florida on this.  This is straight up weak sauce.

Maryland and Rutgers are battling for the garbage that Penn State leaves behind.

I am taking it easy with the links today.  I am almost into vacation mode.  This is my last TMA for awhile.  I will be back Monday for the NFL post, but I am done posting until October 7 after that.  See you guys back here for the college football games.
