Seventh Inning Stretch: Football is Back

By mikeychx

kim-kardashianCBH from CBH Sports Kicks Off Our Coverage of NFL 2009

Hallelujah! The NFL season is finally here. If things go right my next 17 Sundays will be spent watching football from 1 PM until I go to bed. There is almost nothing better than NFL Sundays; eating food, drinking beer, and watching grown men beat the hell out of each other. Those of you with girlfriends, fiancées or wives know that it’s hard sometimes to watch the amount of football that you want to. I have had to make some concessions with my fiancée. I can have my Sundays of nothing but football, but that means my college football viewing is less than I would like. For instance, this Saturday I won’t be able to watch Notre Dame beat up on Michigan live, because we will be attending a church picnic. I am going to record the game and hopefully watch it later, but when it comes to the NFL, the church picnic would have to go on without me.

The key is to get your significant other slightly interested so she doesn’t make things miserable for you while you watch. One way that I have accomplished this is by having my fiancée play in my fantasy football league. She likes to watch the Yahoo Stat Tracker and see how her players are doing. This can usually occupy her for about 30 minutes, and then the excitement tires her out and she will usually take a 2 hour nap. By time she wakes up from the nap the 4:00 game has started and at that point she is ready to go home. Works out perfect! It also helps if the Redskins are playing, they are her favorite team and I think she can name at least 3 of the players.

No matter what your situation is, treasure the next few months. They go by fast, and before you know it football will be over, and the dog days of summer will be upon us. Quick plug before I get into tonight’s action. The first edition of The Hail Mary was posted to my blog today. Each week I will preview and predict all the NFL games, picking straight up and against the spread.

NFL

Tennessee Titans (0-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0), NBC, 8:30 PM ET, And so begins the Titans descent into mediocrity.

College Football

Clemson (1-0) at #15 Georgia Tech (1-0), ESPN, 7:30 PM ET, Will look in at this during commercials of the NFL game. Georgia Tech should roll.

MLB

No one gives a crap about baseball tonight.

Philadelphia Phillies (79-58) at Washington Nubs (47-92), 7:05 PM ET

Florida Marlins (74-65) at New York Mets (62-77), 7:10 PM ET, the Mets season of excuses is almost over.

Atlanta Braves (71-68) at Houston Astros (68-71), 8:05 PM ET
