Andre Woodson Playing Spy

By sparty

Giants Minicamp FootballAndre Woodson is not a good QB.  He is not an okay QB. In fact, he is absolutely horrible.  He cannot read coverages, he telegraphs every pass he throws, and his delivery time takes longer than the Pony Express.  So it came as no surprise to see the Giants cut him following the conclusion of training camp.  This was the second  year in a row that the Giants did so.  Last year, they resigned him to the practice squad after clearing waivers.  Woodson believes he can play in this league, even though his play says otherwise (38% completion pct in the preseason, 0 TDs, 2 INTs).  Of course, it is possible for garbage to stick to a 53 man roster, so Woodson hasn’t given up all hope.

This season, Woodson decided to sign with another team immediately following his release from New York.  Who did he sign with?  The Giants rival and first opponent, the Washington Redskins.  Think he brought the playbook with him?  Tom Coughlin sure does.  We have yet to confirm if the Rams will be scouting Woodson this weekend at Giants Stadium.  The Redskins need all the help they can get, because the G-Men are going to trounce them on Sunday.

I never got the big uproar is beinging the playbook…big deal. You really think opposing coaches are going to gameplan with a 300 page playbook…or hours of taped footage?

    Take it from there.

The Pats and Jets played this game all the time the week before they played each other. Belichick would sign some Jets scrub that was cut and Mangenius would sign some Pats scrub that was cut. …and it never made a difference.

I think the Giants will win, but don’t believe in any of this trouncing business.

if there was a player that actually played, it would help. like Antonio Pierce when he came over to the Giants, or that first game that Lawyer Milloy joined the Bills.

Coaches change the audibles and signals before the first game in any event. What he can help with is to report trends such as which if the 300 plays and 20 formations did they concentrate on in practice and didn’t show in the preseason as much. However that shouldn’t make a big difference.

What is huge is to know the other team’s plays by stealing their signals. To know simply if it is a pass or run can completely change the outcome of a play. I really wonder how secure those radio headsets are. I guarantee you that if I spent a few weeks on it, I could devise a way to crack them pretty quickly. What would that be worth to be able to hear the conversations from the box to the coaches on the field?

Gator Trey– I agree with you completely. The Redskins won’t memorize the Giants entire offensive system. They’ll watch game film.

obviously they will. the hope is that he can give them tendencies, and audible calls and such. the game film is a much bigger deal.
