The Morning After – August 31, 2009

By jpmanahan

tmalogoI am pleased to report that I am going to be the newest staffer of Sparty and Friends. Expect only good things from me every Monday and on any day that might have interesting news about what is going on in our realm.

There is an underrated and underreported event that is going on in Milan, Italy. My friend will be going there to cover the Homeless World Cup 2009. Their objective is noble and pure and they are really doing justice to the world, making it a better place.

Speaking of doing justice in the world, it is National Heroes’ Day here in the Philippines, where we honor those who represent our country. The Big Lead wrote about a sportsman who is following the route Pat Tillman made. (I hope he can come home safe and sound.)

Now here are the links you have been looking forward to:

Life as LA’s QB. Matt Leinart’s true successor?

Ron Artest has a twitter addiction / obsession.

The futbol update in England simplified into numbers.

Lamar Odom was their role model. Unfortunately, it did not leave to a desired result.

Are you one of them?

Twitter and boxing mix. Here’s how.

The Playmaker is back.

The NFC East is on the CBH docket.

Never realized that the classic Lebron game 5 had a predecessor.

Have some Hawaiian Punch.

Could they be on the clock at the end of 2009?

What were you thinking when he said this?

Not a good day for a Patriot QB. Like this and this

Speaking of Patriots, is it over?

Because people want more Ana

Flushing Meadows is about be abuzz and more abuzz.

Deja vu, Tiger?

And because my alma mater won twice this past week, here are the game updates from Thursday and Yesterday. I can happily report our current standings.

To end, here are some clips to end the day:

I was watching this in this venue.

The Sports Guy says this clip was spine-chilling.

I like vidyas JP. In the US we really don’t take on the anthem like they do elsewhere.

My wife lived in Canada for the better part of her growing up, when we went to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup in 2004 the singing of Oh Canada by the 3,000 or so Flames fans who made the trek to Tampa was loud…my wife had joined in.  (Quote)

I thought of him and then I thought of the Mariners trading D-Lowe and Varitek to the Red Sox for him. Good times.  (Quote)

Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the Pats pulled another Troy Brown routine here – telling Bruschi that they were going to have to cut him, and giving him a chance to retire first if he wanted to and save face. His play fell off last season, noticeably, and after moving on from the aging Mike Vrabel, Bruschi was the next logical option to cut and get younger at a crucial position.  (Quote)

Well donge JP! I have seen coverage of the Homeless World Cup in the past and it is an event worthy of more recognition. Anyone who missed the Arsenal-Man U game Saturday missed an exceptionally exciting and well played game!  (Quote)

na…saw OSU’s, dvr’d michigan, PSU and illinois’ but haven’t watched em yet.

i was too busy watching golf on the worst designed golf course to host a PGA tournament all weekend. if i lived in NJ, i’d be ashamed just by association. what a waste of $250 million. anyone who ponies up the $500k initiation fee might as well light that cash on fire.  (Quote)

I would like to see a PGA tour event just once on some dinky little municipal course to see how bad they would tear it up. Someone shoots a 54? Sure why not. But only once as a novelty.  (Quote)

WaPo did an article trying this out with a guy in the hunt yesterday, steve marino. if you’re unfamiliar, marino is one of those freaky dudes who can flirt with breaking 60 at the hardest of the pga venues.

he shot 68. marino said it was mostly due to course conditions…even when he found the fairway, there were still little bumps and, often, uneven lies. the rough was unpredictable. the greens were torn to shit.

i thought it was kinda interesting that it wasn’t the slam dunk everyone would think it’d be.  (Quote)

i don’t care how many guys are put in the box. i think the giants can still run the ball and need little passing.  (Quote)

i agree…that line is freak nasty.

but if you “need little passing,” why give eli that fat check? especially when he, you know, sucks at passing?

That is interesting, I hadn’t considered that, I just figured guys like Tiger Woods who are used to scrambling would have no problem with the occasional bad break. But the greens being in terrible condition would probably be incredibly frustrating for those guys.  (Quote)
