Plaxico will do at least 20 months in jail. The only reason he doesn’t serve his 3.5 years is that he pled guilty to a lesser charge. I am not saying I advocate carrying illegal firearms around but in most states and localities, that would have received a fine.
Taking two years out of the life of anyone is harsh. 90% of the time, I think criminals get off with lenient sentences. A teacher having sex with several teenage girls got 6-12 months for example. I guy who burglarized dozens of homes got 3 years. So how does Plaxico get 2 years when he didn’t even hurt anyone other than himself. He wasn’t using the gun to commit a crime.
