Ahhh…the AFC West Worst. So much drama…such little good football. Tom cable in his first “real year” means three out of the four coaches are new – and Norv Turner isn’t one of them? This division should be will be the worst in the NFL and will have people clamoring for playoff seeding by conference…regardless of whether or not a team wins their division. Most likely the AFC West will cause another 10 win team to miss the playoffs from the AFC North, or the AFC East….good times.
Side Note 1: You know what the best part about living in a football free Los Angeles is? We always get the game of the week.
Side Note 2: You know what the worst part about living in a football free Los Angeles? We always get to watch the Raiders or the Chargers games…
San Diego Chargers – In a very real way, the Chargers should go 6-0 in this division…They will need it. The AFC West gets the NFC East and the AFC North this year. So this is a very real possibility of another 8-8 team like the Chargers winning the division again. If last year is any indication of the bad luck magnet that Norv Turner is, well anything is possible. They managed to go 4-8 and then win four straight to squeak out the division (thanks Broncos for losing three straight and getting your “irreplaceable” coach replaced. Shawne Merriman not in on Defense for the year contributed heavily to what should have been a cakewalk for the Bolts. Darren Sproles emergence should spell Ladanian Tomlinson long enough to keep him healthy for the year and make a difference once the Playoff start. Prediction 9-7 (Win Division)
Denver Broncos – The Broncos collapsed like the Mets in the regular season (or the Cubs in the postseason) last year. To me this means a philosophical change or a player away from turning it around. Nope – lets blow the whole damn thing up. Yeah they have a serviceable QB in Kyle Orton…but he is no Jay Cutler. And Mike Shanahan’s running philosophy that made millionaires out of fringe running backs…well that’s gone too. Again, the schedule for the AFC West is going to play a huge factor. The AFC North and the NFC West East (h/t to copy editor rekcalsa) could sweep, but Ill throw them a bone and say they win at least two games against but get swept by the Chargers. It all adds up to 8-8 and an early vacation.
Kansas City Chiefs – Will Matt Cassel prove to be a fluke…a beneficiary of QB’ing the New England Patriots. The Patriots who probably see another ring had Tom Brady been healthy? I really believe this. I see Kansas City doing nothing this season other than rebuilding and looking at new schemes, new philosophies, and new coaches. Todd Haley is coming over from the NFC Champion Cardinals to take over…. and they brought in a bunch of “names” that are on the downsides of their careers. The reality is, the AFC West is so weak that after going 2-14 last year, a 6-10 mark will be seen as a huge improvement, and will garner some buzz for Haley, and a pass for Cassel. It won’t amount to more than third best though.
Oakland Raiders – Commitment to Excellence? I don’t even know if I really want to waste to much time on the penning of this post on this team. Yeah they have Darren McFadden…but JaMarcus Russell doesn’t really have a “go to” receiver. One dimensional teams never fare well in the NFL and McFadden will be taking a beating this year. The defense has one player of note in Nnamdi Asomugha, but quick… name one other player. I keep bringing up schedule here but it has gotta be a factor – lets be honest. Oakland is f***ed. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tom Cable fired a few weeks in. They maybe have four winnable games on their schedule. 3-13 – last place again…and probably the worst record in the NFL…May as well start looking at who they draft next year right now, because Al Davis – you are on the clock.

and the raiders are gonna be decent this year…certainly better than KC or denver. spencer096(Quote)
denver doesn’t have a friggin chance at 8 wins. sparty(Quote)
spencer- agree. i like Oakland’s chance to improve this season. sparty(Quote)
Agreed. They will be the surprise team in the AFC…I like that backfield too much GatorTrey(Quote)
i agree but – i gave them two games against the nfc east and afc north…er nfc east…i got them sweeping KC, sweeping oakland, beating the bengals and browns…my fringe games for them are philly and washington
i did say
mikeychx(Quote)
two games? against who? sparty(Quote)
oakland is good on paper – but tom cable is gonna fuck it up good for them…jim fassel needed to get that job i think mikeychx(Quote)
phi and was mikeychx(Quote)
Plus with Willie Gault, James Jett, Tim Brown, Rocket Ismail, and Alexander Wright they have a US Sprint team at Receivers. GatorTrey(Quote)
Oakland is a year or two away, another 5 win season for them. KC will jump to 7 wins, Denver will finish in last with 4.
Chargers are going 12-4 this year. cbh49er(Quote)
no way the beat philly, and beating washington in washington is a longshot. sparty(Quote)
afc west has it tough this year with the afc north and nfc east mikeychx(Quote)
sparty i did say there was a chance they get swept….if they do – it puts them at 6-10 mikeychx(Quote)
it doesnt change no playoffs for them…so it is a bit inconsequential mikeychx(Quote)
i like the cable guy…hard nosed, doesn’t take bullshit, knows his OL REALLY well…they’ll have a ground game to be reckoned with. spencer096(Quote)
one thing that team can do is run the ball. they will have a 3-headed monster this year. i love Michael Bush. sparty(Quote)
The Broncos are going to BLOW. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
The Chargers were actually 9-7 last year.

I wish the Raiders were better, but I agree with your analysis. Everything went downhill when we got punk’d by the Bucs. Fiesta Trio(Quote)

So…which is it? rekcalsa(Quote)

/fix’d mikeychx(Quote)
You’re welcome. rekcalsa(Quote)
okay…so you guys have beaten the broncos to death…they will probably finish 6-10…i said they could get swept…but i was “giving’ them two games….maybe i take that back now and go with my original “swept” feelings…so
oakland gonna be better than 3 or 4 wins….chiefs 6-10?
discuss mikeychx(Quote)
I really do think Oakland is getting better as much as I’d rather see them continue to get the shit beat outta them. Not that I would fear them, but they’re not just a cakewalk anymore like the Broncos.
I have no idea about the Chiefs, but they won’t go 2-14 again. rekcalsa(Quote)
i just dont see oakland beating anyone in the afc north or nfc east…they split with denver and split with kc…their other games are houston and the jets…
they may be able to run the ball – but that defense is gonaa be ti-iiiiired mikeychx(Quote)
Chiefs are going to be awesome. LJ is going to return to his all pro form

Better than 5-0 like last time.
At least the NY Yankees won today. And Youk is suspended 5 games along with the pitcher that body slammed him. cycledan(Quote)
Damn…my SFTC is at 8 losses in a row. Can’t they have a prize for someone who manages to get the longest losing streak too?
/Off-topic rekcalsa(Quote)
Well they both appealed, but Youk dropped his appeal already. rekcalsa(Quote)
youk dropped his appeal so it wouldnt fall during yankee series…take those five games against detroit and texas…someone smart mikeychx(Quote)
