The Morning of: August 8, 2009

By sparty

Yankees vs Red SoxNo clever super-duper clever intro for today.  I was up late last night watching a somewhat long game and still a little sleepy.  I was woke up by a child at 6am that wanted to watch the Little Einsteins.

The Rays were losers to the walk-off last night too.   Ryan Langerhans provided the heroics for the Mariners.

The Tigers are starting to strengthen their grip on the AL Central, and the Twins are fading.  The White Sox dropped their second game in a row in a loss to a team composed of AAA ballplayers.

Even though the Angels dropped a game last night to the Rangers, Mike Scioscia better win manager of the year this season.  No team has battled the injuries that the Angels have (especially to their starting pitching), and still remain out in front of their division.

The Marlins have an outside of chance of catching the Phillies, and this weekend series is so important.  Good thing they grabbed a win last night.  But don’t count out the Braves either, who took down the Dodgers in 12.

Matt Holliday is continuing to prove that he is the most important offensive pickup prior to the trade deadline, as he propelled the Cards back to a game ahead of the Cubs.  Of course, the Cubs didn’t do themselves any favors in the divison or the Wild Card with a loss in the Mile High.

The Giants are now tied with the Rockies with their bad loss to a bad Reds team.  Like the Marlins and Braves, the Rockies and Giants have a small shot at the division title, being only 6.5 back of the Dodgers.

Now you are caught up on all the important baseball games.

Either Osi is really humbled by his injury from last season and the current state of the economy *chuckles*, or he is playing the humble route to get his message through to management.

One of the most under the radar FA signings happened with the Patriots.  Derrick Burgess will payoff.

Isn’t it starting to feel like Ty Law has been in the NFL for 20 years?

Contrary to popular opinion, Jesus most likely didn’t have a beard.  Get that, Tebow?

Telling you right now, Collinsworth will be great as Madden’s replacement.  He will be just what Al Michaels needed to return to his previous greatness.

NFL FOOTBALL TOMORROW!!!! Get your picks in.

I stayed up to 1AM after my race last night because I couldn’t go to sleep. JD Drew’s catch in the 14th was amazing and then Melky missed the game winning hit by 2 inches. The first time Posada reached base in extra innings I thought they should have pinch run for him but turns out Girardi was right since he got on again. What a game!

One of the most exciting regular season games I have seen in a long time. Just an amazing pitching battle where every pitch was pivotal.

I was going to get up early but I couldn’t fall asleep until 2AM after the game. That is why I love sports – for games like that.

Pitching matchup today favors the Yanks.

cycledan- definitely one of the better regular season games i have seen. I will always take a great pitching match-up over a 10-9 game.

interesting stats from last night following A-Rod’s walkoff. He now has 6 career walkoff HRs in his Yankee career, 9 overall. Not sure how many total walkoff hits. Jeter has 6 walkoff hits for his career. Yeah, I know, Jeter 1 A-Rod 0 in November walkoffs, but still.

I think real baseball fans appreciate a Beckett-Burnett 0-0 pitching matchup. The tension on every pitch as you get to the late innings is almost tangible. If every game was 0-0 it wouldn’t be as exciting. However this was between two good offensive teams battling for 1st place even if you forget any rivalry. Also the previous game there was 19 runs scored in 8.5 innings so what a contrast.

I am glad I stayed up to watch it.

sometimes, those games are bad hitting. last night was great pitching, and great defense. it was truly a game of inches.

    Trade, not a FA signing.

that was a great catch by drew, that will give him some much needed ammo as he defends himself from the red sox nation bashing
