7th Inning Stretch: July 7, 2009

By GatorTrey

sexy_pirateSo I was in Chicago over the weekend and we went to the Field Museum. They had a pirate exhibit on display complete with a pirate ship and all sort of artifacts recovered from a shipwreck. It was pretty sweet, but I learned a lot of things I didn’t really ever think about with pirates. Pirate ships were basically democracy in action before the U.S. even existed, it didn’t matter if they were black or native american or what their background was, so long as they had a skill and everyone shared equally in the plunder. Who knew pirates were so forward thinking? Also buried treasure is a complete myth, there is no evidence of any pirate having ever buried their treasure. In fact the money was generally gone as soon as they came by it by spending it and gambling at the first chance they got. They also didn’t have access to doctors at all so anytime someone got an injury the ship’s carpenter basically amputated the appendage right away without any sort of pain killer. Yikes. Live hard, die young, makes for an interesting life I guess.

In sports action:

Pittsburgh at Houston
Washington at Colorado
San Diego at Arizona
Florida at San Francisco
