The Morning After: July 2, 2009

By mizerle06

tmalogoGood Thursday morning…effectively known as Friday morning for some of us this week as we have the day off in honor of Saturday being July 4th.  I’ve gotta say, it’s a good thing I’m not a business owner yet because there would be no New Year’s or New Year’s Eve days off and there would definitely be no Friday or Monday off if Independence Day fell on a weekend…New Year’s is contrived and Independence Day should be celebrated on July 4th.  Nobody needs July 3rd or July 5th to celebrate July 4th.

Anywho, enough of sharing my future business model and onto this morning’s links.

Starbury thinks the Knicks are a trainwreck.  Dof! (South African for “Duh!”)

Souvenir City has begun their college football conference previews.  They’re starting with the mid-majors, I guess.  First up, The Big Televen.

Shaqleveland* has begun.  *Sparty & Friends trademark

With a name like Jim Bob Cooter, one would think he’d be a little less cavalier in his choices.

Was there ever really any concern that Kobe would opt out and leave LAReally!?

Tiger jacks some moolah off of Romo.

Denny Green seems to think the Mikey Vick will end up with the Dolphins…probably because dolphins hate dogs too.  /science

National Football League Economics 101.

Penn State has changed its student ticket policy, much to the chagrin of scalpers.

Who knew that the 76ers mascot was a rabbit?  Are there even any rabbits in Philly?

Richard Petty tells Danica Patrick to get off his lawn…and git in th’ kitchin and fix him uh sammich!

Mark Sanchez put his Mark Sanchez on a cocktail waitress’ arm (next-to-next-to-last paragraph).

Eli Manning was in Memphis shooting Reebok commercials.

Percy Harvey news!!  He missed some kind of practice or training or something.

While referencing his break to play golf with Tiger Woods, Tony Romo says there’s no time to take a break.

Eddy Curry is facing foreclosure.

Nebraska is three sellouts away from 300 straight.

This is so weird:

Programming Note:  In honor of the upcoming celebration of Independence Day and coupling that occasion with yesterday’s Canada Day, we’ve decided to give the bossman an extra day off.  He may be in and out of the comments section today, but don’t expect to see much, if any, of his daily awesomeness in the form of posts.  We’ll have a couple more posts this morning followed by at least a Weekly Caption this afternoon.  We’ll still be hitting you with TMA’s this weekend along with some daily comment threads.  We hope you guys have a great, relaxing 2nd*, 3rd**, 4th, and 5th of July.

*cause you’re probably at work being very unproductive
**cause you’re probably off of work or maybe you’re at work but now you’re really unproductive

Kobe was supposed to opt out so he could resign at a lower cost, enabling the Lakers to retain Odom and Ariza. Now Ariza looks to be gone.

Exactly. It’s called Independence Day, not Independence Long Weekend.

But it’s a federal holiday. we at the government shut down

The new PSU student ticket policy is a good one and it’s about time that they did something like that

    What they do?

a few years ago student tickets sold out in less than 15 minutes. A lot of the people that bought them didn’t buy to go to the games but bought them to scalp thus shutting out the students who wanted to go to the games in order to make a quick buck. PSU switched from a paper ticket system for students to one that’s tied to your student ID card thus making it hard to scalp tickets

Ya, it was that way at UF too, but they didn’t sell out that fast. Instead you lined up at the Swamp and there were 8 ticket windows open from 9-5 for 22,000 student tix. Usually took 2-3 days to sell out.

My senior year they switched to a phone system, which was terrible. they didn’t have the capacity to handle the amount of calls they were getting. I got through the 1st hour and though it was easy, in fact that Friday night was DEAD in Gainesville because people were trying to get through all night. People hated me, took my wife 2 1/2 days to get through.

Tix were $7 a game, I’d say the resale was very limited, but a good amount of students sold their tix for money. In fact two of my roomies sold theirs for FSU @ $300 a piece, I couldn’t blame them. They ended up scalping two at kickoff for $40 a piece so it worked out.

Now they do a lottery…and require the student ID to get in too.

I think Dubsdread, I dunno yet someone else is taking care of it. I ahven’t played since they tore it up and redid it.

Dubsdread is a good course. I just broke down (at age 46) and bought my first set of clubs. Figured at my age, I could use golf to expedite my demise.
