guyinthecorner:
Normally I wouldn’t use those seasons, but Gordon went to college. He was 21 and 22 for those years. Even if you take them out, he still only shoots .449 in the last three years. And as I proved, the clutch stats prove Gordon is a myth in that department. He just takes a lot if shots, doesn’t ever assist anyone, and turns it over more the vast majority of guys.

Here’s another one: In game winning situations this season, Gordon went 12/34 (.353), got to the line for 6 free throws, had 1 assist, and 4 turnovers.

I mean those shots against the Celtics were complete shit...you're right.

I don't hate the Pistons. It's strong dislike. And I actually don't dislike many of their players. I like Rip, I love Sheed, I had Stuckey as my huge sleeper before his draft. The only recent Piston players I wasn't big on were Chauncey and Tayshaun and with good reason.

And you don't really want to get into the differences between the 07-08 Nuggs and the 08-09 Nuggs, do you? Because if you look it up, it's not just Iverson/Billups.

guyinthecorner: Sparty-Chauncey didn’t lead the team, Carmelo did. Chauncey got credit because he was traded there and plays point guard. The team was going to be good this year even if they kept Iverson. They might not have been as good, although that might have been because of the tension between Iverson and Karl.

just keep digging the hole. how far did the nuggets get with melo and iverson before?

Normally I wouldn't use those seasons, but Gordon went to college. He was 21 and 22 for those years. Even if you take them out, he still only shoots .449 in the last three years. And as I proved, the clutch stats prove Gordon is a myth in that department. He just takes a lot if shots, doesn't ever assist anyone, and turns it over more the vast majority of guys.

Here's another one: In game winning situations this season, Gordon went 12/34 (.353), got to the line for 6 free throws, had 1 assist, and 4 turnovers.

I'm still fascinated by the coaching carousel. Pistons fire Carlisle, win a title. Mavericks fire Avery Johnson, hire Rick Carlisle. Pistons hire Avery Johnson. Hakuna Matata and all that bullshit. Welcome to the NBA Circle of Life.

I disagree that Chauncey was the Piston’s best player. Rip was. Chauncey isn’t actually great, he’s doing it with smoke and mirrors.

yeah, chauncey billups used smoke and mirrors to get the nuggets to the conference finals after they hadn't been out of the first round since Mutombo and Bison Dele upset the Sonics. yep, simply smoke and mirrors.

also your most foolish comment ever.

Come on GITC, you're better than that. The last three seasons he's shot 45% are you really going to use his rookie and sophomore seasons against him?

I think it's a good deal for a great shooter.

I disagree that Chauncey was the Piston's best player. Rip was. Chauncey isn't actually great, he's doing it with smoke and mirrors.

That said, I disagree with this strategy for the Pistons. I'm fine with the Villanueva contract because he has a ton of potential and they could rebuild around him.

The Gordon contract on the other hand is mystifying. 5/55? The guy is one dimensional. He shoots jumpers. He's actually not even that good at his single dimension. His career FG% is .437.

Oh, and the tendency he has to take over games? Made up. His clutch FG% was .460 this season. That was 87th in the NBA. And clutch assists? 103rd in the NBA. But he was 37th in clutch turnovers so that's always good...

Don't confuse shooting a ton with making a lot. He was 22nd in the NBA in average shots taken in clutch situations. He took more shots than Paul Pierce, Michael Redd, Caron Butler, Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups, Tim Duncan, Chris Bosh, Kevin Martin, Hedo Turkoglu, Manu Ginobili, Kevin Garnett, Antawn Jamison, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Pau Gasol, and Rashard Lewis.

And for the record, don't pay bench players 55 million. He's also going to be 31 at the end of that contract. Ben Gordon at 31 for 11 million? Yeah, that's what you want.
