The Ironic Side of The Blind Side

By mizerle06

blind-sideThe Blind Side” is the name of a book written by Michael Lewis about former Ole Miss star Michael Oher’s life story leading him to Ole Miss.  Naturally, since the book and story were good/heartwarming, a movie is being made.  To get the real feel of how good Oher was growing up and how coveted he was throughout the recruiting process, the movie is using cameos of actual SEC coaches to accurately portray what their reactions may have been when watching video of Oher.  Here’s the list of coaches that were in Atlanta earlier in June to shoot their scenes: Lou Holtz, Tommy Tuberville, Ed Orgeron, Nick Saban, Phillip Fulmer, and Houston Nutt.

The ironic part of this whole situation is that when Oher was being recruited, each of these coaches were employed by a different school – or in Tuberville, Fulmer, and Holtz cases, employed in general.  So, for their cameos, Each coach had to wear the garb of his former team for realism.  Here’s where they were and what they’re doing now:

- Lou Holtz: was head coach at South Carolina and is now retired…currently working for ESPN.
- Tommy Tuberville: was head coach at Auburn and has since resigned/been fired…currently unemployed and living in Auburn.
- Ed Orgeron: was head coach at Ole Miss (successfully recruited Oher to commit to Oxford) and was fired…currently working as D-Line coach and recruiting coordinator for Lane Kiffin at Tennessee after a short stop in N’Awlins with the Saints.
- Nick Saban: was head coach at LSU and left for a short stint as the Miami Dolphins head coach…is now head coach of Alabama.
- Phillip Fulmer: was head coach at Tennessee and has since been fired…currently unemployed and living in Knoxville.
- Houston Nutt: was head coach at Arkansas and resigned after being Freedom of Information Act’d one too many times…is now head coach at Ole Miss.
