S&F Weekend Sports

By mizerle06

saturdaysportsHappy Saturday!  This is the first official Saturday of Summer, also known as mowing season for the landowners out there.  By this time, everyone in the country should be trimming the lawn about once-a-week, unless of course you live in plant hardiness zone 9, 10, 0r 11 (can’t leave out our Hawaii readers!) and you thought it would be a good idea to put two applications of Scott’s Bonus S Weed and Feed on the lawn earlier in the Spring.  That genius would be mowing his grass about twice-a-week now.

I digress…follow the jump for today’s sports schedule.

There’s not a whole lot in the way of athletic competition on the tube today.  Other than some Wimbledon 3rd round action and a NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Loudon, NH, baseball comprises most of today’s sports action.  Here’s the MLB matchups on tap for today (all teams are playing, so pick your poison):

I hope you all enjoy your Saturday.  I’ll most definitely be enjoying mine!

Sparty, it’s obvious you follow politics and although you disagree with me somewhat I respect your opinion, do you think the Iranian election was rigged? I do.

I think the only people that don’t think it was rigged, were the people that rigged it.

haha john, I think it was rigged, how could I possibly rig it as an America, living in th U.S.?

kwsn- ya know, I am not completely sure. Unfortunately, we are only seeing what is happening in Tehran, and not the entire country. It is very likely it was rigged. The Ayatollah is still the real leader of that country, and as we look at dictatorship countries like Iran, North Korea, Libya and the Sudan, they always have overwhelming numbers in favor of the the incumbent.

I remember back in my senior year of high school, all 11 years ago, and my AP US History teacher said 2 things to me:

    1. Be scared of China.

    2. The youth in Iran will make a move for change within the next 15 years.

There is still a lot of old guard Iranian (technically Persian) people in that country that are scared to vote against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or have so much hate for the West that they would vote for him anyway. It was probably a lot closer than the numbers that were made public, but I have a feeling Ahmadinejad won.

Considering you have been so honest, I will be too. I don’t think China is a threat. The future is never set in stone and I think China has changed, the populace itself is not in favor of war, they want to be part of the massive movement forward that the western countires have experienced the last 20 years. I agree with your assessment of Iran, the youth is rising up and we are experiencing a soft revolution. The established (read older) power is grasping at straws. Things are changing. The 20-40 generation is starting to flex its muscle and it is wonderful. I personally think the time for Armageddon has come and gone, we have changed the future and it is now a clean slate.

/probably too polarizing for this site, but it is interesting.

I know what you’re saying knightro. I bought my wife what I thought was her entire china set as a wedding present only to find out there are an endless amount of gravy boats and serving dishes that I need to invest in. it’s terrifying.

Gee, I could make a crack right now, but I will resist.

    My political two cents:

China is not threat. They make us too much crap to risk losing all that manufacturing.

North Korea and Iran are just nuts enough to do something crazy.

Why are Sunnis and Shiites always infighting? Stop fighting yourselves and band together against the common enemy. Of course, that would be really bad for us.

Do the Muslims who hate the West resent our oil interests, or is it something we said? If it’s the oil, bring on the alternate fuel vehicles and end our dependence on foreign oil. Then we can stop sticking our noises in their business.

Invading Iraq was the worst mistake of the Bush Admin. Sadaam was the only thing holding Iraq together, now it is a mess. He (Sadaam, not Bush) was not a real threat to the US.

I just don’t understand the rift between Israel and Muslims.

/USA against the crazy Brazilians in futbol today. USA USA USA!

    read the Old Testament.

In college, I was taught that the Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe in the same God, the God of Abraham, and all three hold the Old Testament as sacred. But the Jews left after the first act (old testament), the christians left after act 2 (the new testament), and the muslims stuck around for act 3 (koran?).

And Salma Hayak in Dogma taught me that there is no correct faith, only that you have faith.
