The Morning After: June 22, 2009

By sparty

The Morning AfterOnce again, we apologize for the lateness of TMA.  I am really not sure what the heck has been going on as of late.  I know several of you expect to start your workday with this, and not actual work.

Again, we apologize for the um…letdown.

No joke, but the Fox Sports link says “Tiger in pursuit at Open.” Look, Tiger is great, but he isn’t not in contention, nor will he be.

Not only did the Yanks drop two of 3 to the Fish, but CC Sabathia left yesterday’s game with a stiff bicep in his throwing arm.  He expects to make his next start.

Missing a workout less than a week before the NBA draft will not help the questionable Thabeet.

Guess who signed with the VIKINGS!!!!

John Daly’s life just keeps getting better.

Roger Clemens is thinking about puttting out a book.  Gotta pay for all those legal fees and court costs. Nobody will read this.

Well, legalizing marijuana just took a hit.  Everyone thank Donte Stallworth.

The Extreme Delusions of Peter Warrick.

Soccer news?  Brazil was robbed!!!

Season tickets are available for Packer fans, if you signed up in the 70’s to be on the waiting list.

Too bad, Moneyball won’t be a movie. Take a hike, nerds.

Eli about to become the highest paid player?

The always classy Jerry Buss was busy playing poker during the Lakers victory parade.

You know a few years ago the Bucs started throwing up billboards touting 100,000+ season ticket holder waiting list. Now you can call up and get seson tickets.

I always knew that list was bullshit.

well, the Giants claim they went through their waiting list after the expensive PSLs weren’t sold. but i know several people on the list that never received calls or letters.

100,000 wait list at one time? I guess if you’re going to lie, may as well make it a doozy.

There are two legitimately impossible waiting lists in sports that I know of.

    - Masters Tickets
    - The Green Bay Packers Season Ticket Waiting List

Both have been considerably large and most people on either list have been waiting decades to even come close.

The Boston Red Sox say they have one about 8500 deep, and they probably do. But they also tell people it will 10 years to get season tickets…that’s nothing compared to the two above.

I’d imagine many large Universities could do the same, but most just go with a bidding method instead of lists. Highest bidder gets the tickets. I know after 2006 at UF the minimum was $12,000 (which doesn’t go towards tix)and you have to pay annually. It’s come down since the economic downturn to about $6,000 annually.

University of Minnesota hockey season tickets have an impressive wait list. It’s about 3000 people, but on average only about 4-6 people get tickets each year. With any luck, I’ll get mine about the same time the Elder starts college.

My son took me to go see Star Trek. I am a pretty big Star Trek fan (just watching the show not going to conventions or wearing pointy ears) so I figured I would like it. I really didn’t care for it. I thought the screenplay was terrible. Plus they came up with a whole alternate timeline for the Star Trek universe changing major things that the show established. Wasn’t good for trekies and wasn’t good for people just looking for a good sci fi film in my opinion.
