The last we heard of former Michigan State standout, Charles Rogers, he was about to go to jail for testing positive for alcohol and falsifying Alcohol Anonymous records.
This past weekend, free from the shackles of the man, he participated at high school teammate LaMarr Woodley’s football camp. It was here that he was able to shed some light onto a possible future in the NFL:
“There’s nothing concrete (about the NFL), just speculative,” Rogers said. “But if a team gives me a tryout, I know I’m going to be ready. I’m in better shape now than I was before.”
Rogers last set of tryout’s were terrible. When he entered the league, he ran a blistering 4.28 40, but was unable to break 4.8 when he tried to catch on with other teams following his release from the Lions. He had zero work ethic, and was also too busy blowing all his money on unhealthy things.
Now the word is that he is doing nothing but trying to get his life back on track. Constantly hearing things like draft bust, waste of talent, overrated have got to him, as well as the mistakes he made in his life. He claims to be in better shape than he has ever been in, and peers are saying he is working out all the time.
Is there a future in the league for Charles Rogers? Hard to say. It has been years since he destroyed college cornerbacks with is size and speed. It has 7 years since his rookie season started a blaze, but ended quickly with the first of 2 broken collarbones. To expect that he would be productive would be wishful thinking. However, if he has regained some of his sprinter speed, there will be a place in some capacity. NFL teams crave speed.
NFL Training Camps open in 6 weeks, I am sure his cell phone will be ringing at some point.

If he can break 4.5, he’ll get a 1-year minimum contract somewhere to prove himself. The thing is, I seem to remember his biggest problem being work ethic (kind of like Mike Williams… Matt Millen is a jackass). If he’s committed, great. If he’s not willing to learn the playbook or actually try, forget it. Big D(Quote)
I predict Rogers will never catch another pass in the NFL.
How do you bust someone on falsifying AA records? Everything is supposed to be anonymous, isn’t it? cbh49er(Quote)
Not when you’re on probation. GatorTrey(Quote)
cbh- he probably had to give his probation officer a list of meetings he attended with at least first names from whoever chaired the meeting. he probably just filled it out himself. how they proved he did it, i have no idea. unless you put down meetings and completely messed up the dates. sparty(Quote)
i think he gets a look in the preseason. sparty(Quote)
if he can catch passes and not drop them, he will get a look. he will prolly get the minimum, though, if ever. jp manahan(Quote)
