Seventh Inning Stretch: Get In the Hole!

By mikeychx

diora-baird-bikini-golf-outtakes-22KnightsWhoSayNi hosts this epic episode of Seventh Inning Stretch

So the NBA and NHL playoffs are over and the summertime suckiness is upon us, but fear not we have the U.S. Open this week to tide us over for a little bit longer. And with another golf major comes the decade long argument of Tiger vs the Field. I am going with the field in this one. Tiger only averages about 1 major win per year anyway so that already makes the field a 3 to 1 favorite. Also, the U.S. Open is notorious for having some relative unknown catch fire and win the whole thing. And that is my pick, someone most people don’t know like Steve Stricker or Tim Clark.

That being said, I can tell you with 100% certainty who will not win the U.S. Open. Phil Mickelson. In 1966 Arnold Palmer had a 7 shot lead in the final round of the U.S. Open and choked it away. He never won another major. In 1996 Greg Norman had a 6 shot lead at the Masters going into the final round and choked it away. He has never won a major since. In 2006 Phil Mickelson won the Masters and had a 1 stroke lead going into the final hole at the U.S. Open. He choked it away badly double bogeying the hole. He hasn’t come close to winning a major since. It’s science, when a golfer chokes that egregiously it gets in his head and he just can’t pull it off anymore when the pressure of a Major championship is on them. Phil Mickelson will never win another major, he’ll only win random tournaments here and there.
