The 8th Inning Overreaction

By sparty

Yankees Red Sox BaseballThe Yankees have lost 8 straight games to the Boston Red Sox this season.  I know there is a ton of baseball left.  I well aware that even though they have been atrocious against the Sox, the Yankees are only 2 games back in the AL.  However, THEY HAVE STILL LOST 8 FRIGGIN GAMES IN A ROW TO THE SOX!!!

This is not okay. There is nothing okay about it.  They have lost in every perceivable way to the Red Sox.  They have been shutout, they have blown 6 run leads, they have blown late leads, the have been blown-out.  Almost anyway one can lose a baseball game this season has happened for the Yankees against the Red Sox. It is down right embarrassing that they haven’t recorded a W against them.  Especially when you look how much better the Yanks have been against the rest of the AL.

One doesn’t need to hit the panic button on the season, but if the Yanks plan on making the postseason, and then eventually winning in it, they better find a way to beat the Sox.

There is one huge overreaction that is already happening after last nights loss.

I am already hearing whispers from Yankee fans about how Joba as the setup man would have been the difference in last nights game.  He would have prevented an 8th inning rally by the Sox.  That Girardi wouldn’t have trotted out Sabathia.  That is the easy way of looking at it.

How bout knocking in some damn runs. The Yankees were 2/15 with runners in scoring position last night. They had plenty of opportunites against Brad Penny and they didn’t capitalize on them.

Did anyone stop to think about Nick Swisher and his stupid base running error?  How do you get doubled-up on a pop fly?

Oh, if Joba was the set-up man, who would be pitching today? Kei Igawa?  The Yanks are having a hard enough time finding someone to fill the 5th spot in the rotation, so if you put Joba in the pen, now you have 2 spots open.  Real friggin smart.

Once again, the Yankees are only 2 games back from the Sox. Prior to this series, they were one of the hotter teams in baseball.  The 8th inning wasn’t even a question mark.  One bad 8th inning and now suddenly that issue has to be brought up again?  Everyone who keeps bringing that up is incredibly short-sighted and foolish.  These are the same people who would vote a closer for Cy Young.  You need to have effective bullpen to win in October, but you need better than okay starting pitching as well.  Guess who the Yankees second best starter has been this season?  Joba Chamberlain. Who has been the Yankees best starter since last season? Joba Chamberlain.

It is time that the rest of the Yankees get their heads out of their asses when they play the Red Sox again.  No dropping fly balls, no baseruning mistakes, and stop leaving ducks on the pond. Earn your damn money, bitches.
