The Morning After: June 2, 2009

By sparty

The Morning AfterI have been up since 5:30am.  Why?  Because I am in the midst of making myself over.  Unfortunately, the hardest part has to take place before the sun comes up.

Changes have occurred in my home as of late.  My wife has completely changed her diet to help her with health issues she was experiencing and is doing fantastic with it, even though it was difficult at first.  I explained to you last Friday about the big change with my son.  So I decided to take a little inventory of myself and concluded that I needed to make a change. That was getting myself into shape.  See, I don’t look at myself and think, damn I’m fat.  But I know that I could be much healthier.  Now I am running in the morning, and doing push-ups and sit-ups in the evening.  Not only that, but I am now eating differently and drinking a ton of water.  I have never swallowed this many veggies in my life.  It is worth it. Only a week in, and I can already feel the difference in energy.  The added bonus is that I am going to look damn good in my tux at my sister’s wedding in October.

Commenters are in a panic at Deadspin over a new policy that is being implemented. Personally, I completely understand why it is being done, and we will cover that more in detail later today or tomorrow. /teased.

Can you name the best left-handed hitter in the Majors? That would be Adrian Gonzalez. Somehow he is 5th in All-Star voting. These are the same fans that picked David Ortiz first in fantasy.

Well, if Peter Vescey said it, Carlos Boozer is definitely not headed to Detroit or NJ.

Tom Brady has magical powers that make him heal fast. Or something to the effect.

Umpire was calling pitches for Randy Johnson.

Gentlemen that write for Sparty & Friends, get your posts done early. Each Finals game starts late.

Big Ben is a shell of the man that played in Detroit. He is now pondering retirement. Any Piston fan still upset that he left town?

Stupid News of the Day: Man puts snake in mouth, gets bitten.

This is really why I am running now.

Golic throws like a girl.

You always meet these guys on a football team.

In case you missed it in the comments of a post yesterday:

A little short today, but that is because I only got halfway through a Ctrl + P and shhhh….it.

Miz NoteRunning the isolation like LeBron.  My favorite line:  “Kudos again to Stan for playing Pietrus 35 minutes in game 6, Lee 30 minutes, and Redick 0.”

thanks. I remember when I could run and it took 2 miles to break a really good sweat. A little pissed at myself for allowing myself to getting this way.

The days off inbetween are worse than the late start times. Both teams have a week off before the Finals, so do they really need another two days off after game one?

The NBA, where sucky scheduling happens.

i see my brother (only 3 years older) letting himself go and that’s all the motivation i need to stay active

not in the shape when i used to be able to run up and down a basketball court for hours on end or play 8 hours of volleyball in the sand, but i’m not too bad

Good thing you can still run. In my late 20’s, my knees started hurting so badly that I finally went to see a doctor. To cut a long story short, I stopped playing rugby and started cycling. A lot less wear and tear on your body.

Just make sure that you don’t skimp on the stretching before or after you run. They say it is better after you exercise but I need to loosen up before I go hard. Also, spend the money on a good pair of shoes. They won’t make you run faster but they will save you from joint pain.

No mention of Yankees setting an ALL TIME MLB record yesterday? 18 straight without an error. Interesting that other than one run of 15 in the 1970’s, all the streaks have been set recently.

No team in the 1940′ or 1950’s ever went more than 15 games without an error? Did they not keep the stat then or were fields so much worse back then? I find it interesting. Also did official scorers give out more errors?

Thanks for linking me up, Miz. Maybe during the finals I’ll examine one bench player each game for his (lack of) contribution, or his ability to stay out of Kobe’s way.
