I am going to be celebrating a friend’s 21st birthday this Saturday in Adams Morgan in DC. It has made me think back to my 21st birthday and how it is hard for that day to live up to the hype that precedes it. My 21st birthday wasn’t the first time I got shitfaced but it was the first time I was able to get into a bar. I really didn’t get that wasted as I had broke friends with me who couldn’t afford to buy me drinks. The only real memorable thing that happened was me doing karaoke for the first and so far only time in my life. My song choice couldn’t have been worse, Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb, The song itself is amazing but a terrible song for karaoke.
What should have been my 21st birthday in terms of sheer awesomeness and fun was my 24th birthday. My friends and I took over the bar. I had friends from different areas at each table, basically representing different stages of my life. I took at least 15 shots that night and somehow didn’t puke. I ended the night by standing on one of the tables, staring drunkenly and somehow avoiding being kicked out. Definitely the greatest party night of my life.
