Memorial Day Weekend is upon us. How many of you are sticking around all day at work? I am. Why? Because I am never away from work. I am always at work. I think the last time I missed an entire day at the office for anything other than being sick was the actual first TMA before it was TMA. I woke up super early that day and put together a bunch of links for you, and then I headed down to Great Adventure. It was there that I learned I was entering the part of my life of getting old, as opposed to growing up.
I would love to take some time away, but I gotta be careful of my vacation days. I have a big wedding to attend in Michigan during the month of October. I think shortly after that, I will head down to Orlando and visit Trey the Mouse.
Let it be known: Jake Peavy is a wuss. Look, I know the White Sox are not heavy favorites (nice job yesterday), but they are in a much better position to make the playoffs this season than the Padres are. Once you get to October, anything can happen. Sorry JRod (not 2BB JR0d), but Peavy is scared of the DH.
The Tigers are a pretty hot baseball team right now. Granted, not against the AL BEast, but still doing pretty well. So cue the talk of why they can win it all. Not much of an argument, but expect to see more if from the Tigers fans. Right, Geoff?
Mikey, ya need a hot golf partner? I won’t tell the wife.
Someone needs to get LeBron some man pills.
Is Baron Davis on the move again? Rumors are circulating that he could be headed to Dallas.
I am not the biggest MMA fan. I was never a huge boxing fan either. I was always a fan of a specific fighter. But I imagine that a lot of you do follow it, so here are some predicitions for UFC 98. Can’t they come up with anything more original for their fights than a number?
Women in wrestling sure has changed since Miss Elizabeth. There is no way that one chick is related to Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart, not possible.
William Perry is on his way home. Hopefully he gets his health completely in order. The Fridge was one fun football player to follow.
It is sites like this one that make the internet so cool.
Just remember: Jobs are for losers.
So who really misses College Football?

Sounds like most everyone is stuck at work. Save the college student, that is. It’s going to be a tomb around here today.

I’m stuck at work too….hoping Boss Man will let us leave a couple hours early, as he usually does on holiday weekends, but he seems bitchy today (go figure-perfect timing)

I am coasting through the day and then take off for a week in St. Lucia tomorrow. It’s tough.

Biting my and and trying to say “that really sucks” Knightro…but the words St. Lucia and Sucks cannot be used together.
Have fun!

Well I am all set for a 3 day weekend of visiting my father in the hospital and waiting for a bed in a nursing home to become available for him. Life sucks right now.
Other than being in the hospital with my wife when my kids were born, I never had to deal much with the medical system. It really sucks. It seems I am the only one in the world not ready to write my father off. Maybe I am an idiot or maybe it is just because he is my father.
They give him ridiculous shit like statins to lower his cholesterol but do nothing to try and get him back on his feet again or help his quality of life.

Sparty not sure if you were being facetious but that one chick is Neidhart’s daughter.
(Quote)
sorry to hear that CD
hospitals are in the business of making money, and they can’t do that if they fix everyone

i was being facetious.

cycledan – I took care of my dad for the last 8 years of his life and dealt with a couple of assisted living facilities and several nursing homes. It was one of the hardest things I think I’ll ever do. I was committed to being his advocate at every step and even had to call a state ombudsman in at one point to deal with a particular person. I know what you are going through. Hang in there, like parenting (I imagine – I have no kids), it is worth it in the long run. I saw many people who had no one to keep their best interests at hand and they suffered, so know you are doing the right thing by ALWAYS being there for him. Let me know if you need anything by e-mailing trey or sparty and getting my address. Take care.

Thanks knightro. Yeah this sucks.
I don’t think these people are necessarily evil but they really just don’t give a shit. They are doing their jobs but I wish they would treat their patients the same way they would treat their own family members.
(Quote)
The caregivers are only slightly to blame, the administrators on the other hand seem to be almost entirely pure evil. That was my experience anyway. It’s always the shitty 30 or 40 thousand of them that give the other good 3 a bad name.

CD- I feel for you, I really do.
I worked in a hospital for almost 25 years, and had first-hand experience with exactly the kind of thing you’re talking about. And then my mom died from post-op complications after surgery 5 years ago, and my family and I had the “up close and personal” part. As much as we want our doctors and nurses and other medical pewrsonnel to be the kind and caring people we think they should be, hospitals are, first and foremost, a business and the bottom line is more important to them than anything else. We, as patients(and family), are really nothing more than items on an assembly line; being moved along as fast as possible, in order to make room for the next product. That’s a big part of why I have a DNR order(do not resuccitate) in my medical records, because I refuse to put my family through that same ordeal.
