Former MLB baseball player and New York Yankee postseason hero, Jim Leyritz, is currently a patient at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL. The reason for his admission is because he threatened committing suicide this past Wednesday night.
As you probably remember, Leyritz was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter back in December of 2007, when he killed a young woman in a car crash. Apparently, Leyritz became irrational when he was unable to start his car, and made a comment about ending his life. Authorities were eventually contacted and Leyritz cooperated and checked himself into the psychiatric ward.
Leyritz is best known for his dramatic Game 4 3-run HR against the Braves back in 1996. He also hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 15th in the ALDS in 1995 against the Seattle Mariners. The events that are unfolding in his life have been extremely dissapointing, and unexpected. Obviously he is responsible for the wrongs that he has committed, but one hopes that Leyritz can find some peace in the very near future.

Think he’d twirl the knife around before cutting his wrists? rekcalsa(Quote)
+1 rek. Morbid, but funny. sparty(Quote)
The bat twirl is pretty much all I remember him for anyway. rekcalsa(Quote)
Tough to be on top of the world one minute and potentially going to jail the next. See Michael Vick. I like him as a player but as with all pro athletes, there is no connection to what they do on the playing field to what they do in the rest of their lives. cycledan(Quote)
