I like that idea for the Lions first pick. It makes perfect sense. It is true that top 5 picks are now a punishment for being bad. Here you go, Lions — we know you went 0-16 and you really suck, but we’re going to make you convert a 21 year old rookie into the highest paid player at his position. Yeah, so what if he was only all-conference and not all-pro, I’m sure he’ll be worth it. I mean, look how great that Ryan Leaf deal turned out – or Alex Smith, or David Carr, or…

Funny that one of the most successful #1 picks is also one of the most panned when the Texans passed on consensus #1 Reggie Bush for Mario Williams.
