The Morning After: March 31, 2009

By sparty

The Morning AfterThis is going to be a loooooooooooong week.  Back in 2005, I was elated when we knocked off Duke and Kentucky back 2 back in the same weekend to reach the Final Four.  No team had ever beat Duke and Kentucky in the same tournament.  It was great to see that team reach the Final Four, because Alan Anderson, Kelvin Torbert and Chris Hill were expected to lead Michigan State to multiple championships, but never lived up to the hype.  They had reached the Elite 8 once before, but were knocked out of the first round the following year.  It was a good way to finish their career.  However, I never thought they could be that stacked UNC team.

I expected big things from this Michigan State team.  They had a couple disappointing moments this year, which did shed some doubt into my mind and caused me to pick Louisville to beat them, but after they handled their business against the Cards, I believe we could be heading to Detroit to just win it in front of the entire state of Michigan.

You want to know the real reason Michigan State is better than UConn?  Check here (NSFW).

WE ARE SPARTA!!! My favorite part:

Tom Izzo is arguably the best coach in the country. He’s undoubtedly the most passionate and classy. I don’t know any other coach who takes a loss harder, yet is the most gracious in both victory and defeat. When every player you’ve ever recruited has made it to a Final Four, you’re obviously doing something right

I love it when former Michigan Alum, Drew Sharp, has to write nice about Michigan State.

Hey, deal with it. We are a minor Michigan State blog this week. If the lazy Patphish doesn’t care? Then he needs to step up and write some more posts.

Maybe this story has changed again once this has posted. But as of the moment I click ok, Calipari is still with Memphis.

Maybe Donovan should have taken the Kentucky job. Calathes is entering the draft. Make that 3 years in a row that they won’t make the dance. Sorry, but that automatically would eliminate anyone from discussion as one of the Top 10 programs in the country.

Tight ship they are running in Orioles Country. Can’t wait to see the team leave.

Dontrelle Willis has an anxiety disorder and is on the DL. When is someone just going to move him into the field and let the kid hit.

10 ugliest uniforms of the 70s.

This is why San Diego finally got rid of Hoffman.

The Knicks suck.

Everyone is Twittering, but only Mark Cuban is getting fined.

Carson Palmer says he is 100%. But with TJ already gone, will he have anyone to throw it to?

Nothing is going to happen to Plax today. Maybe. Someone tell the DA that this is supposed to be a good week for MSU athletes.

The Sparty & Friend Movieology continues with the Elite Eight today, so return at 8 am.

Now a  moment of quick housekeeping.  Many have been wondering the whereabouts of Mikeychx lately, and he has been very busy with his real job. He will now will be taking a leave of absence from the site to deal with things of a personal nature, but hopes to be back as soon as possible.  We at the Sparty & Friends family send out our thoughts and prayers to Mikey.  Because of the personal nature of what is taking place, we cannot provide any details other than Mikey himself is ok.
