The Football Region held the most competitive opening round with three films advancing by a maximum of 2% of the votes. Of those, the Little Giants had the most comfortable win with a 52%-48% upset over North Dallas Forty. The Replacements took out much higher seeded The Program by an even slimmer margin, 51%-49%. Then came Jerry MaGuire vs. Necessary Roughness. Ultimately, only three votes seperated the two with Jerry MaGuire prevailing with 228 votes to Necessary Roughness’ 225.
While upsets were just as common as chalk in the opening round, I wouldn’t expect that to be repeated in the second round. One to look out for, though, would be Varsity Blues giving Rudy a run.
