Happy Sweet Sixteen day everyone! Coincidentally, this is also Happy S&F Movieology Day too. So, while you’re preparing to get your college hoops on tonight, you can get your Movieology on in the meantime. Here’s tonight’s hoops schedule again:
| 7:07 PM ET | Purdue vs. | Connecticut |
| 7:27 PM ET | Xavier vs. | Pittsburgh |
| 9:37 PM ET | Missouri vs. | Memphis |
| 9:57 PM ET | Villanova vs. | Duke |
We’ve got a bunch of links to pass on along with our daily wrap-up of the S&F happenings so let’s get to it.
I unlocked the doors this morning and got you guys some links in The Morning After.
Then, Sparty spanked Jason Whitlock for a minute for being a waffler.
GatorTrey followed up the spanking with a 2009 season preview of the Tampa Bay Rays.
We opened up the Movieology First Round next. Check out the contenders and get your votes in. Don’t forget, polling closes at midnight tonight so just in case you haven’t done your duty as a citizen of the blogoshpere and need a quick linky or two, here you go:
BASEBALL REGIONAL VOTING
BASKETBALL REGIONAL VOTING
FOOTBALL REGIONAL VOTING
OTHERS REGIONAL VOTING
Studs & Duds was pre-empted by all the Movieology bizness that was going on. But, GITC was still kind enough to run his formula and spit out some results for us. Here’s your S&D’s from last night’s action in The Association:

3. Mike Taylor – 14/20 FG, 7/7 FT, 8 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 35 PTS

And, last night’s Top Ten NBA plays:
Speaking of studs, Lebron reached the 2000-point mark for the forth time. Kareem territory…
The MLB PA is proposing a Manny provision?
Have you been itching for a preview of tonight’s NCAA tourney action? Well then, I’ve got the perfect anti-itch ointment for you!
Is there a loophole in the rules for college football graduate assistants? If so, we should keep an eye on Lane Kiffin, I’m sure he’ll try to exploit it.
So, Tony Kornheiser clowned on Matt Lauer for hitting a deer…while riding his bike. Very clown-able circumstances to me. At any rate, they hugged it out this morning.
In response to Julian Tavarez’ analogy, legendary S&F author Patphish had this to say:
My Jets are Marilyn Monroe, hot 40 years ago, dead ever since.
Forgot to include this – they finally got Fetch.

Starbury is starting to become a regular on the Duds list.
(Quote)
Stephon Marbury is terrible.
(Quote)
legendary? Doesn’t that mean im dead or retired?
(Quote)
A 9:57 start on a Thursday in Boston for Villanova/Duke. That is some brilliant scheduling there.
(Quote)
wow, a 10pm start on an east coast basketball game. wtf?
(Quote)
If “passing the ball right back to your teammate after he passed to you, because you had a wide open shot” was a stat, Starbury would be the number one stud every day.
(Quote)
he said legendary, not a saint.
(Quote)
Who’s Mike Taylor? And Bobby Brown?
miz–Didn’t include the movieology links? Can’t seem to find them…
(Quote)
bobby brown beats whitney, not sure who mike taylor is
(Quote)
rek – I freaking actually scrolled up and clicked on the baseball link to make sure it worked before I recognized the sarcasm.
(Quote)
for once, i am happy that 2 clips made it to the studs list. not much to celebrate the year.
(Quote)
miz–Well, you’ve got nothing better to do…any luck on the job front yet?
(Quote)
got some good news late this morning. not a job offer, but a step closer.
(Quote)
Not sure if this is newsworthy, but it is easy on the eyes.
Anna Kournikova plays beer pong h/t busted coverage
(Quote)
Nice…I hope it pans out.
(Quote)
I honestly cannot wait for tonight’s games to start
(Quote)
no way i can make it through the Duke/Nova game. i need to rest up for the MSU/Kansas game…
(Quote)
Yeah, when the formula said Mike Taylor I was like, “Wait, what?!?” Then I checked the stat line and was even more confused.
(Quote)
i like how each region has a 100 less voters than the previous region
(Quote)
Wow… it only took me 15mins to vote on every matchup. Poor format, it needs to be broken up.
(Quote)
Irishmafia?
(Quote)
I’m kinda pissed Missouri/Memphis is on as the same time as Duke/Nova, those are the two games I am most looking forward to.
(Quote)
People can’t sit through every region and vote.
(Quote)
Why not? Unless you’re on dial-up, it doesn’t take that long…nothing to read and no research needed…just click some buttons.
(Quote)
Sorry, sparty. I don’t often criticize here, but it’s a job to sit and vote on every matchup; it takes too long for the app to register votes.
(Quote)
grandma?
(Quote)
ill- we staggered them on the hour today. had we started this last Thursday, we could have stretched it out.
(Quote)
it truly is amazing how impatient this world has become. I blame Taster’s Choice.
(Quote)
Sparty – I like the idea and enjoyed voting. I didn’t know they were staggered; i just got home from work and checked them out. I was simply trying to explain why I think less people voted on each bracket.
(Quote)
ill- we aren’t Deadspin or TBL. we don’t keep unique visitors here longer than one post, generally. we received a link from extra mustard, but by the time the majority of them already clicked on the original movie post, two of them still had not posted. that’s why the numbers are lower. we kinda expected that.
(Quote)
Nova – Duke is also the game I am most looking forward to if I can stay up that late.
I am having the Syracuse party over at my house tomorrow. I am very nervous about Oklahoma and Blake Griffin. OU is basically a 1 seed if Griffin doesn’t get hurt this year. My nightmare is the Syracuse big men getting into foul trouble early in the game.
Then again, we find out about layoffs here at work on Monday. That brings the whole nightmare level up by an order of magnitude.
Miz, I might be joining you. Coming over tomorrow is a friend who just got laid off from Citibank. Be careful out there.
(Quote)
I’m impatient when I sit in traffic for 1.5 hrs on my way home then have to wait 30secs every time I click “vote” for the results to appear and vote on the next choice.
I got out of work early today just to sit in traffic long enough to not make a bit of fucking difference.

The Necessary Roughness matchup is a dead heat. I wonder if Gus Johnson is announcing it.

Where’s Mikey with our Tiger update?
3 back at Bay Hill.

Keeps sounding worse for UConn

but screw the scandal! Huskies start strong.
(Quote)
ah screw it…

(Quote)
guh, Purdue is ice cold.
(Quote)
Hummel!
(Quote)
Purdue needs to just settle it down, play it Big 10 style.
(Quote)
Is anyone getting the Pitt/Xavier game?
(Quote)
@sparty – there is no Big 10 “style”
(Quote)
purdue pete is lucky to be within 6
(Quote)
Here they go!
(Quote)
knightro- whitlock described it as brutal to watch
(Quote)
kwsn-they are getting caught up with trying to mount a comeback with only 3’s. that is what got them in trouble against Duke.
(Quote)
I know! I saw that it rendered him catatonic on the couch!
(Quote)
+1 knightro.
(Quote)
UConn has lost focus
(Quote)
Hummel is on fire.
(Quote)
is purdue a one man team and was that guy hurt when penn state beat them?
(Quote)
Because Purdue has lulled them to sleep with the brutal play.
(Quote)
johnny, not really a one man team, but yes Hummell didn’t play the game Penn State beat them.
(Quote)
+1 sparty
(Quote)
BANG!
(Quote)
damn, purdue is missing too many layups
(Quote)
That looked like goaltending to me.
(Quote)
purdue is lucky they are down only 5 after that shitty start
(Quote)
yep
(Quote)
purdue looks horrible for long stretches but then makes a mini run
this is a weird game
(Quote)
Purdue has been totally outclassed so far and yet they keep hanging in this thing.
(Quote)
sweet this is where my bracket could finally fall apart. if both purdue and pitt lose i lose 2 final four teams and my champ
(Quote)
That was absolutely goaltending on Thabeet, the ball was going down.
(Quote)
look like purdue ends here. as does my bracket.
(Quote)
That’s ok Sparty you have to take a few chances to win.
(Quote)
make up call
(Quote)
Xavier can play some defense.
(Quote)
UConn is just the better team.
(Quote)
Monster 3
(Quote)
we’ve essentially got three ties in the Football Region. time’s running out!
(Quote)
I wish I would have had the Pitt/X game here instead of the UConn/Purdue game…
(Quote)
GO TIGERS GO!!
(Quote)
/Memphis Tigers
(Quote)
everyone else goto bed?
(Quote)
not me HawkEye. freakin’ CBS change me from the Mem-Mizz game to Dookie-Villy.
(Quote)
aye, same problem here. Not thrilled about that. May have to get the Memphis game online.
BTW – you can just call me Hawk. Can be easier
(Quote)
glad to know we’re friendly enough that I can shorten your name now. thanks Hawk
Eye.(Quote)
Hey, I’ve been calling you Miz for how long now…
(Quote)
werd.
(Quote)
I _really_ need Memphis to win….
(Quote)
same here. kinda kills my bracket if they don’t win the title.
(Quote)
I don’t have them that deep. Only to the Final 4
(Quote)
also need ‘Nova to win
(Quote)
supposedly Gillispie is out in KU
(Quote)
Gillispie is the Kansas coach?
This ACC greater than Big East talk is looking quite silly.
(Quote)
Purdue losing and Memphis about to lose finally messes up my West bracket…there goes a final 4 team unless Memphis has some magic up its sleeve.
