The Morning After: March 17, 2009

By sparty

The Morning AfterHappy Saint Patrick’s Day!  Are you drunk yet?  Are any of  you enjoying an Irish Coffee as you enjoy your favorite green colored website?  I’m not.  Crackbucks is enough for me.

Huge announcement here later today. This is groundbreaking stuff (not really).  It will change  your life! Actually, it probably won’t, but it might depending on who you are.  I can’t say that, I am not that powerful, yet.  But definitely make sure to check-in at 10:15am for a very important message from yours truly.

We are going to have plenty of college basketball coverage throughout the week, so we will try to steer clear of it in here.  Besides, The Week That Was College Basketball returns at 930.

Remember when all of you were calling the Patriots stupid for trading MattCassel for only a 2nd round pick, remember? Remember how I said that nobody should question any personnel decisions by the Patriots until it all pans out, remember?  That second round pick is about to turn into so damn good talent.

Jay Cutler continues his belly-aching out in Denver.  I wouldn’t be surprised if McDaniels is taking the Belichick route already, sounds a lot like Mangini when he arrived in New  York. But Cutler is still a spoiled little…

Charlie Villanueva is addicted to Twitter.  We have a Twitter account, but haven’t updated it for a couple weeks.  What the hell is going on with Facebook anyway?  That is looking like Twitter now.

Good news in Lakers Land?  Bynum might actually make it back by the end of the season.

Dwayne Wade is having such a great year, but has just been fired.

Who knew Isiah Thomas was still actually doing work for the Knicks? He is helping them to get ready for the draft.  This is all Zeke should be allowed to do, he is good at that.

Phillies fans are holding their breath.  Mets fans are crossing their fingers.

The Marlins will never get a new stadium.

Lane Kiffin landed Bryce Brown, but for some reason I think something very shady went down.

I am winning a million dollars, because I am going to be perfect. I guess that is close to College BBall.

Maryland is stupid.

Apparently I have already been getting old and never knew it.

National Fart Hearings.

Hugging Harold Reynolds interview Seth Davis about When March went Mad.

Here are some wacky numbers for you; Prices on goods has risen 683% since 1964, and the dollar is holding about 95% of its purchasing power since 1950.  Good times.

You’re very cynical, sparty. I think it was on the up-and-up, no doubt…what’s wrong with a $1000 handshake once in a while?

I think the sentiment that Sparty expressed is probably closer to accurate about Kiffin. While the Vol faithful might be jazzed about him, his bizarre and contentious dismissal from the Raiders and his inflammatory comments at UT so far have made him kind of a joke to the rest of the country (or maybe just the SEC). And you have to wonder why a highly talented kid would want to play for a “joke”.

knightro – Kiffin has done two things since he’s been in Knoxville:

    1) Recruited well.
    b) Made a complete ass of himself and the program.

He has set himself up to where his only option is to win this year. I am one of those Vol faithful and “jazzed” is definitely not the word I would use to describe my feelings about him and this upcoming season.

sparty – your wacky numbers link is depressing. I’m removing myself from the grid and gonna find a good cave to move into. now, to tell mrs. mizerle06 of our impending move…wish me luck.

UT is on their way to having an SMU type scandal

not yet, sparty. that’s Bammer territory. seriously, the NCAA has an eye on Bammer all the time and they’re at a point where one major violation will result in the “death penalty.” Tennessee doesn’t have any major violations and only has minor, self-reported violations.

I would ammend your statment to saying “UT is on their way to having an MSU-type losing season.”

knightro, I want you to go up to the hottest girl you find, ask her if she has a little Irish in her, if she says no, then ask her if she wants some Irish in her. So what if you get slapped, it’s worth it.

funny, i remember playing on New Years Day this year. I don’t have to go that far, I remember playing in a bowl game this year.

I will laugh heartily if this happens. unfortunately, it most likely means that KY will get better.

I know this is a sports blog but that link you posted at the end is such a bunch of crap it is hard to know where to begin. It sounds like that article was written by some right wing conspiracy nut (or is it a left wing conspiracy nut – they sound the same sometimes).
There is no big secret how the Federal Reserve works. It certainly has its failings but our current economic crisis can be blamed on almost all branches of government.

I would start with Congress first of all for deregulating banking to the extent there wasn’t close to enough oversight. Even when there was supposed to be oversight, the SEC completely failed us as well. Too much to get into in a blog comment but that article kind of reminds me of listening to either Rush Limbaugh or Michael Moore.

    Back to sports:

Jay Cutler is a little whiny bitch. I don’t want him on the Jets. He is upset that the new coach didn’t talk to him enough when discussing a trade with the Pats? Give me a break. Teams are always discussing hypothetical trades to see what is out there and if it favors them, then it becomes a real trade.

My company is talking about selling some of us off. I don’t like it but nothing I can do about it.

I will be taking it easy on the back porch with a few friends and a bottle of Jameson.
