The Morning After: March 16, 2009

By mikeychx

The Morning AfterTime to get your brackets ready. Selection Sunday happened yesterday obviously. I know all you hardcore fans know this…but it is time for the rest of the world to get excited about college basketball. For starters we aren’t going to go too deep into the happenings yesterday…we will just highlight the overall bracket in general….the one seeds (Louisville, UConn, Pittsburgh, North Carolina)….and the snubs. Why not talk about the tournament here in TMA? I don’t wanna step on the toes of TWTWCBB crew who would do a hundred a million times better than I could ever do with it anyways.

Good news though this morning. We have a steady stream of all of our favorite sports now for the rest of the year. You know….the Tournament gives way to baseball, baseball interrupted briefly by the Stanley Cup…The NBA’s second season, all of the PGA Tour’s majors…did I mention the NFL Draft…Did I mention the NFL – Then the World Series….College football…that’s tight boys and girls…our sports sabbatical is over…and it’s “game on” for the rest of the year.

I will be reminding you around lunch the next few days to get your bracket together. We have a Tournament Challenge bracket set up for us over at ESPN…password is spartan. Speaking of reminding someone…it’s time to pay the piper – it will be compelling to find out why Maryland sucks so bad.

Baseball is up immediately following the Tournament basically….wondering if  New Yankee Stadium will be ready…here are the latest pics. Speaking of baseball…the previews heat up this week…Mets and yankees on Wednesday and Thursday…give way to next weeks Red Sox, Cubs, Phillies previews…everyone’s fave teams coming up.

Tons of good basketball was on this weekend…all of the championships again will be covered by TWTWCBB crew…and I am sure that GITC will formulate something controversial for Studs and Duds later this afternoon…but if you wanna make your own opinions….here is the link for the NBA recaps and results…and the CBB scoreboard here.

mickletitsTiger returned to the Tour…shook of some rust and got a top ten…but the stat of the week had to be that out of 79 guys TW was 74th in putting. Very Un-Tiger like…anyways…you can see Phil smiling in the photo to the left…he won the CA Championship for his first WGC title. Speaking of golf…this just pisses me off.

I never really liked Jay Cutler…I guess it was because here in California, we are always force fed the Chargers or the Raiders because they are California teams…well Jay Cutler and Phillip Rivers annoy the ever loving shit out of me for the back and forth taunting things they do…anyways, I really hate Cutler now. Getting traded is part of the business…why get your feelings hurt? Evidently Cutler put his house on the market and now Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is publically commenting about losing Cutler and that it may be a possibility. So where does he go?

I mentioned the draft earlier…could it be that someone has finally took their head out of their ass in Detroit?

NBA teams on the move? Will Seattle get the Pacers and become the Sonics? Do we really need to have another NBA team in Los Angeles? The Anaheim Kings? We already have the LA Kings…Maybe Vegas gets an NBA team…the Maloofs are owners of the Palms after all. But no basketball in Indiana would be pretty tragic.

The NFLPA has a new chief…an outsider? Manny’s hurt already?

Random linkage from my world. I was on the 101 the other night coming back from LA I heard the Def Leppard song Two Steps Behind…it brought back some memories to my old ass. Anyways, I You Tube’d the vid when I got back home for old times sake and I want to recommend to anyone who has ever liked Def Leppard to get on You Tube and check out an entire set of acoustic songs they did in Sheffield England in 1995. I’ll start you off with Two Steps Behind…but they do all the classics from Hysteria and Pyromania….again – if you like Def..check it out…if not – feel free to make fun of me instead and watch me not care. Pour Some Sugar on Me…acoustic? Good Stuff.

Input needed from commenters – You want a tech post once a week from me? I can talk about GPS and make it sports related…You wanna know how to get the most outta your Tivo? You wanna set you house up with distributed video so you can watch sports in any room in your house…every room in your house?…I can tell you how to do it….Just saying – I got the new Blackberry Curve 8900 and am now free to comment all day long using RSS…interested…email Me or Sparty so we can gauge it.

Look, I’ll quit for now with the links…I am going to be completly realistic and realize that the comment section is gonna be dominated by tournament talk anyways. So – what ever I missed here link wise will be picked up throughout the day anyways…stay tuned for all the good stuff to follow…..thanks for starting your week with Sparty and Friends.

Mikey is a Senior Editor at Sparty and Friends..He is old and liked Def Leppard as a young guy…Just how old is Mikey….He watched Top Gun a million times…and never saw any gayness in it until some one told him about all of the innuendo…Skid Row was also popular in his day…Mikey has a son named Christian that he named after Christian Hosoi because Mikey liked Chirstian Hosoi when he as a kid….every dollar that Tony Hawk makes he should give fifty cents to Hosoi…but Hosoi got busted and did time so he never got the Tony Hawk recognition….but Hosoi > Hawk…<fact>…You gotta problem with any of this shit – you can email Mikey…He can be reached at mikey@spartyandfriends.com. Mikey likes being Rickey Henderson….talking in third person is what Mikey  thinks Mikey should do at the end of all of Mikey’s posts.
